Another disappointing end to session

State Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen told The Chronicle Monday that the 2016 legislative session ended on a “sour note.”
That was one of his more mild statements in describing the failure of the state Legislature to pass transportation and bonding bills.
Minnesotans seem to be united in their opinion that improvements to roads and bridges need to be a top priority for the state Legislature. Legislators seem to agree, but fell apart when it came to how to fund those improvements, and whether light rail should be involved.

Council needs to talk about what’s important

To the Editor:
Usually, I would not be writing a letter to the editor, but I don’t get to talk about important issues at the council meetings, issues like people’s homes and property being damaged by water, and methods to to correct the problem.
Apparently, location of the recycling bins and drug drop-off boxes are more important. Those issues were not on the agenda, but they were brought forward and thoroughly discussed.

Trailblazer hires Sand Creek to help with workplace issues

A long, closed session held by the Trailblazer Transit Joint Powers Board Thursday resulted in a series of motions, including one to write a letter of reprimand to Executive Director Gary Ludwig, and another to hire Sand Creek to help implement workplace changes to improve the working environment.
No reason for the reprimand was given.
Most of the discussion of the open portion of the meeting focused on the report presented by Sand Creek’s Susan Herreid regarding an assessment of the transit system’s workplace environment.

Gruenhagen frustrated at session’s end

State Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen vented his frustration Monday over the state Legislature’s failure to pass a transportation and bonding bill before the current session expired.
In particular, Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, feels that a transportation bill was derailed by Senate Democrats who tagged on funding for light rail just as the session was set to expire.
“It ended on a very sour note,” said Gruenhagen of the session.
Gruenhagen said that legislators in both chambers had worked hard to negotiate a transportation and bonding plan.

Common Cup makes city center new home

Common Cup Ministry will now call the Glencoe City Center home. The organization held an open house on May 17 to introduce visitors to its new location on the north side of the center.
Previously Common Cup, an outreach organization of McLeod County churches, was housed in the basement of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Director Bev Bonte said the new location in the city center reiterates that the organization is a community effort.
