Mallak accepted to Luther

Lilianna Mallak of Silver Lake has been accepted for admission for the 2016-2017 Luther College academic year. Mallak has been awarded the Luther College President’s Scholarship. 

Mackenthun is SDSU grad

Kassandra Mackenthun received a Bachelor of Science in history from South Dakota State University on May 7. Mackenthun, a 2013 graduate of Glencoe-Silver Lake, has accepted an internship at the State Museum in Sioux Falls. 

Nelson wins at Powerball

Steven Nelson of Glencoe won $50,000 playing Powerball. Nelson claimed the prize on May 17, 2016. Casey’s General Store at 2101 10th Street in Glencoe sold the ticket. 

Daughter born to couple

Molly and Jacob Schiller of Glencoe announce the birth of their daughter, Atley Elizabeth Schiller, born May 12, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Atley weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 18 inches long. Grandparents are Mark and Marilee Vacek of Glencoe and Michael and Luann Schiller of Hutchinson. 

Binnebose on dean’s list

Kristina Binnebose of Brownton was named to the Chadron State College dean’s list for spring 2016 semester. The dean’s list requires a 3.5 grade point average. 

Eggersgluess graduates

Carol Eggersgluess of Glencoe graduated from Graceland University in Iowa on May 1. Eggersgluess earned a Master of Science in nursing.

Locals graduate at St. John’s

Jacob Burr and Connor Longhenry of Glencoe graduated from St. John’s University on May 8 in Collegeville. Burr, the son of Bryan and Stacie Burr, receieved a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in environmental studies. Longhenry, son of Tom and Cindy Longhenry, earned a B.A. in mathematics. 

KC scholarships awarded

The Glencoe Knights of Columbus (KC) awarded its 2015-2016 St. Christopher Council 4842 scholarships to Mark Lueders and Mitchell Rothstein. Each received $500 and qualified by being graduating members of St. Pius X parish who have demonstrated academic achievement and a record of parish service. The $250 Pauline Stubeda Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Samantha Good. This scholarship provides grants to individuals pursuing post-secondary health care-related program. 

AgStar scholarship to Barott

Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Kirsten Barott was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from AgStar Fund for Rural America, the corporate giving program for AgStar Financial Services. Students in AgStar’s 69-county service area were eligible if they plan to receive higher education to pursue careers in agriculture-related fields or come from a rural background. Barott plans to attend South Dakota State University, pursuing a degree in Agricultural Communications. She is the daughter of Curt and Teresa Bussler. 

Eleanor Trocke, 85, of Arlington

Eleanor Trocke age 85, of Arlington, passed away at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
 
The funeral service was held at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington on Tuesday, May 17, with the Rev. James Carlson officiating.
Casket bearers were Mark Lueck, Doug Wolf, Grant Bening, James Trocke, Paul Trocke and Peter Trocke. 
 
Interment was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
