2 injured in motorcycle-vehicle crash

Two people were injured in a motorcycle-vehicle accident Saturday on Highway 7 near Lester Prairie.
The accident was reported at 5:15 p.m., and occurred at the Highway 7-Babcock Avenue intersection.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Mark E. Ghostley, 61, of Howard Lake, was driving a 1997 Honda motorcycle north on Babcock Avenue and James H. Hamilton, 64, of Champlin, was eastbound on Highway 7 in a 2013 Ford Escape when the vehicles collided at the intersection.

GSL honors employees, community members, retirees at staff breakfast

Glencoe-Silver Lake Schools honored community members and many of its own staff at an awards breakfast Monday morning.
Employee distinguished service awards were given to Carol Silus, an ICU paraprofessional at Lincoln Junior High and the high school, as well as the National Honor Society adviser; Shanda Landes, art teacher and art club adviser; Lisa Petersen, special education case facilitator; and Bill Butler, elementary principal and special education coordinator.

County now offers enhanced emergency warning system

McLeod County, through its existing CodeRED high-speed emergency notification system, will begin delivering messages through the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, known as IPAWS. The added capability provides McLeod County officials an effective way to alert and warn the public about potentially life-threatening emergencies through the Emergency Alert System (EAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), NOAA Weather Radio, and even issue notifications to other local alerting authorities, all within the single CodeRED interface.

2 candidates file for county board seats

Paul Wright, Hutchinson, will be seeking a third term as the District 3 McLeod County Commissioner. Wright filed his candidacy last week. District 3 includes city of Hutchinson Precinct 3, the city of Stewart, and Collins, Lynn, Penn and Round Grove townships.
Jeff Nies of Hutchinson has filed for candicacy for District 4. Sheldon Nies is the current commissioner from that district, but said he is retiring after his current term.
District 4 includes the cities of Biscay and Brownton, Hutchinson Precinct 1 and Hassan Valley, Rich Valley and Sumter townships.
