GSL summer food program starts June 6

The Glencoe-Silver Lake School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. GSL invites children to have a free meal.
Meals will be provided to all children birth to 18 without charge and will meet nutritional standards established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Medical examiner: 196 deaths in 2015

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners received the 2015 medical examiner’s report at its Tuesday meeting.
The report showed that there was a total of 196 deaths in McLeod County in 2015.
Of those, 167 were deaths of natural causes, of which 63 were registered hospice patients.

Extension hosts women in agriculture quarterly seminar

University of Minnesota Extension and USDA Farm Service Agency are hosting a Women in Agriculture seminar June 1 at the Willmar Regional Extension Office. The focus of this quarter’s seminar is farm transfer and estate planning. The day will give attendees the opportunity to learn and network with other women in agriculture in the region. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the seminar convening from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

4-H club collecting jeans

The Glencoe Junior Pioneers will be collecting jeans for donations to different organizations as a community service project.
Jeans can be dropped off through June 3 at the boxes located in the Panther Field House, Glencoe Library and McLeod County Extension office.
Any denim item can be donated including jeans, jackets, shirts and skirts and all sizes will be accepted.

4-H seeks spokesperson for college

College students with an interest in serving as spokespersons for animal agriculture are urged to apply for the position of Minnesota State Fair 4-H Animal Science Speaking Up for Animal Agriculture Peer Mentor.
Six positions are available. This program is sponsored by Minnesota 4-H and Minnesota Livestock Breeders Association.
These positions will serve as mentors to selected 4-H state fair livestock exhibitors in all species to encourage, model and role-play positive interactions with state fair visitors to livestock displays.
