Pollmann is SCSU graduate

Tyler Pollmann, son of Mark and Holly Pollmann of Glencoe, graduated from St. Cloud State University on May 6 with a degree in human resource business management. He will be working at Doherty Staffing Solutions in St. Cloud. 

Virgil Schilling, 78, of Mission, Texas

Virgil “Virg”  Norman Schilling, 78, of Mission, Texas, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at the Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, Texas.
 
A memorial service was held Sunday, May 22, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle with the Rev. Eric Rapp officiating. Corrine Powers was the organist. Congregational hymns were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”
 

Adela Anna Lucht, 101, of Glencoe

Adela Anna (Stoeckmann) Lucht, 101, of Glencoe, died Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Grand Meadows in Glencoe.
 
Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Robert Nowak officiating. Marjorie Hemmann was the organist. Soloist Julie Stiles sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”
 

Helen Meyer, 91, of Modesto, California

Helen M. Meyer, 91, of Modesto, California, died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her home in Modesto. 
 
Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, May 19 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Modesto with Rev. Francis Joseph officiating. 
 
Casket bearers were Paul Samando Sr., Paul Samando Jr., Martin Vega, Justin Wilson, James Wilson and Isaac Wilson. 
 

Carl Klaustermeier, 87, Lester Prairie

Carl Arnold Klaustermeier, 87, of Lester Prairie, died peacefully Sunday, May 29, 2016, at the Garden House in Winsted.
 
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie (while the sanctuary at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church was undergoing renovations). The Rev. Travis Loeslie officiated. Jamie Degen was the organist, and congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”

William Madson, 83, of Machias, Maine

William “Bill” Harry Madson, 83, died at Marshall Healthcare in Machias, Maine on May 20, 2016, with those who loved him by his side. 
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. 
 
William “Bill” Harry Madson was born in Stillwater on August 20, 1932, the son of Edgar and Ivy (Nelson) Madson.

A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 6, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Revs. Paul Schumacher, Tony Stubeda and Todd Petersen officiating.

Marlys Adeline (Becker) Barfknecht, 71, of Glencoe, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
 

GSL baseball season comes to sudden, stunning end

After losing just once during the regular season, a promising spring campaign Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team came to a sudden end with back-to-back losses to open the Section 5AA playoffs last week.

The Panthers entered the subsectional bracket with a 19-1 record and the No. 2 ranking in Class AA. They were also riding a 12-game winning streak that included five wins of 10 runs or more.

Girls' golf team wraps up season at section meet

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ golf team wrapped up its season with a 12th-place finish in the Section 2AA meet at New Prague Golf Course on Tuesday, May 31.

The Panthers posted a team score of 468 over 18 holes, led by Grace Kosek’s card of 106, good for 35th individually. Lindsay Wedin (49th) and Jenna Lokensgard (58th) wrapped up their GSL careers with scores of 112 and 123, respectively. Rachel Reichow (61st) finished off the Panthers’ team tabulation with a 127.
