Brewers best Watertown behind Petersen gem

A 3-0 shutout of visiting Watertown at Vollmer Field on Wednesday, June 1, improved the Glencoe Brewers to 7-3 on the season, with the hometown side set to host St. Boni on Thursday.

Starting pitcher Cole Petersen went the distance, striking out eight Red Devil batters over nine innings, while scattering four hits and three walks.

Petersen was matched frame-for-scoreless frame by Watertown hurler Justin Kohls until the Brewers used a little sleight of hand to record the only run they would end up needing in the seventh inning.

Monahan qualifies for state track meet

Glencoe-Silver Lake will be represented at the state Class A track and field meet this weekend by Maddie Monahan, who earned a qualifying time in the 300-meter hurdles at the Section 2A competition in Mankato on Saturday, June 4.

Monahan, who will be the final Panther to compete as part of the spring sports season, finished fourth in the 300 hurdles, but beat the state standard time with a run of 46.49 seconds to earn a spot in the Class A field.
