ommission hears plans for rural event venue

The McLeod County Planning Advisory Commission held public hearings on two conditional use permit applications Wednesday, May 25 — one for mining and one for a home occupation in which a barn would be converted into a wedding venue.
Lois Ernst of Bergen Township, near Lester Prairie, applied for the conditional use permit for a home occupation regarding an events center to host weddings and other events.
Ernst said plans were to convert a barn on her husband’s family’s home place into a venue for weddings, receptions and other events.

Girls' golf heads into sectionals

With one final tune-up under its belt, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ golf team headed into sectional play this week.

The Panthers commenced competition in the Section 2AA Tournament on Tuesday, May 31, at New Prague Golf Course. Second round of sectional play is slated for Thursday.

Prior to the foray into 2AA, GSL took part in one final postseason primer, competing in the Annandale Scramble Invitational at Southbrook Golf Course on Wednesday, May 25.


Plato back to winning ways

With a pair of wins over Crow River Valley League opponents, the Plato Blue Jays pushed their record to three games over .500 at 6-3.

After losing two-of-three games the previous weekend, Plato came out swinging against CRVL West rival Brownton, bashing the Bruins to the tune of a 12-2 win at Blue Jay Stadium on Wednesday, May 25.


Waconia blasts Brewers

The Glencoe Brewers played just one game last week, and it was a rough one at that.

Waconia proved to be rude hosts, bashing the Brewers 11-3 at Lions Field to drop Glencoe to 6-3 on the season.

The Brewers took a brief 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a pair of unearned runs scored by Gannon Jordahl and Mason Goettl.

However, the Lakers were quick to respond, hanging a five-spot on the board in the bottom of the first to take a lead they did not relinquish.
