Repair work set for Highway 22 in Glencoe on Thursday

Repair work on the Highway 22 railroad crossing in downtown Glencoe is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, from 10 am to 2 pm

Motorists should be prepared for short delays as the road will be reduced to one lane and flaggers will be used to direct traffic.

Still a chance for a special session?

In the wake of the shooting of police officers in Texas, a mass killing in France and the long-awaited start of the Republican National Convention, the thought of a special leglisative session in Minnesota has faded from our minds.
But apparently, there is a spark of hope that a bonding bill and a transportation bill may yet be passed this summer.

Government could learn from this girl

I saw something the other day that gave me renewed hope. It involved a young girl coming to my front door one afternoon.
Last week, my wife and I were watching TV when someone knocked at the door. My wife answered, and after a few moments asked me to talk to the person.
It turned out to be a young girl, perhaps 9 or 10 years old, with several young bike-riding companions. She was quite upset.

Information on Red Cross RapidPass program

To the Editor:
For those donors who like the convenience of the American Red Cross program, RapidPass is a way for blood donors to complete their pre-reading and donation questions online from the comfort and privacy of their own home or office. RapidPass is only used to complete the pre-reading and pre-donation questionnaire in advance of your appointment; it does not take the place of scheduling an appointment. American Red Cross expects to reduce the time donors with a RapidPass spend at blood drives by up to 15 minutes.

City can afford more hours at the elm site

To the Editor:
Last year, the elm site was open all summer for the convenience of convenience of the contractor rebuilding the Lincoln Park area. Did we have illegal dumping of trash? Yes! And he left his name and phone number with the trash. Was anything done about this illicit dumping? No! Seems the fellow has strong ties with upper city management.

Allen Robeck is honest, friendly, helpful

To the Editor:
Several years ago, I met Mr. Robeck at the city water department. He was honest, helpful and very friendly to me.
Viva La, Allen!

Lindemans named McLeod County farm family of the year

The Robert and Lori Lindeman farm southeast of Brownton is in its fourth generation — moving into its fifth generation.
The Lindemans also are McLeod County’s Farm Family of the Year, an honor bestowed by the Minnesota Extension Service to farm families who are engaged both in farming and in their communities.

County Board updated on jail, Judd projects

Rain, a need to move water and sewer services and an unexpected encounter with a coal bin wall has put McLeod County’s jail expansion project a little behind schedule, the County Board heard Tuesday morning.
Larry Filippi and Sam Lauer of Contegrity, the construction management firm, gave an update on the project.
Filippi said the coal bin wall issue resulted in having to shift a planned elevator shaft about six inches. There also were issues with the planned sites for the water and sewer extensions.

Motion to extend yard waste hours fails for lack of 2nd

The hours of operation of Glencoe’s yard waste site has been a topic of discussion in recent months.
Mayor Randy Wilson, at the Glencoe City Council’s meeting on Monday, suggested that the Council take a look at the possibility of expanded hours and associated costs.
The city currently spends over $8,000 for the operation of the site, after the county reimburses around $4,000.
After the city purchased the leaf vacuum in 2014, the need of residents to use the site has decreased. The city will be purchasing a second vacuum this fall.

New Lighthouse pastor seeks mission of a ‘right relationship’ with God

The Rev. Dale Baker has a simple mission for Lighthouse Church, located west of Plato on Highway 212: to make it known as a congregation “that has a right relationship with God.”
Baker, who has been with the church since May, said he is “all about relationships, especially a relationship with our Lord, Jesus. My philosophy of ministry is to be relational in all I do, to connect with people, to know people.”
