City Council hears report on sidewalks on Hennepin

What started as a sidewalk replacement project has become much more.
The Glencoe City Council had ordered Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc., (SEH) to do a feasibility study for sidewalk replacements on the east side of Hennepin Avenue between 11th and 13th Streets.
Much of the current curb and sidewalks are estimated to be from the 1930s and are not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Planning Commission: opt out of temporary health care housing law

Baby boomers are aging and the cost of caring for aging family members isn’t going down.
In May, Gov. Mark Dayton signed a bill allowing property owners to place mobile residential structures on their property to serve as a temporary family health care dwelling.
The city of Glencoe’s Planning Commission discussed the new law at its meeting on July 14.
The structure could be on the property for a six-month period with an option to request a one-time, six-month extension. A $100 permit, along with a $50 renewal fee, would be required.

One injured in 2-vehicle accident near Glencoe

Karen Karl, 73, of Stewart, was taken to the Glencoe hospital by ambulance following a two-vehicle accident Thursday near Glencoe.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Karl was eastbound on Highway 22 in a 2013 Buick Enclave and had stopped to turn left on 120th Street when her vehicle was rear-ended by a 1993 Ford van driven by Christina Bonillo, 18, of Glencoe.
Karl’s injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the state patrol.
