GRHS to host open house Aug. 2 for new wound care, rehab facilities

Glencoe Regional Health Services (GRHS) is inviting the community to take a closer look at its new facilities for physical rehabilitation and advanced wound care. An open house has been scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees should enter through the hospital dome at 1805 Hennepin Ave. N., Glencoe, to:
• Tour the new third-floor addition, which features adult and pediatric therapy gyms and other functional spaces for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy and cardiac rehabilitation;

MAVDV starts Coffee and Chat support group

McLeod Alliance for Victims of Domestic Violence (MAVDV) has started a new  “Coffee and Chat” support group which will meet each Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. A new topic will be introduced each week and the discussion will be led by a facilitator. There will be an occasional guest speaker.
The group will give women an opportunity to talk with other women who have “been there” and to learn more about healthy relationships.

Sibley County Historical Society plans events

The Sibley County Historical Society is hosting an evening with local cemeteries’ boards of directors on Tuesday, July 26, at 7 p.m.,  at the courthouse annex, 400 Court St., Gaylord.
The directors will share the rules and regulations of area cemeteries, each having their own contracts. The expressed information may help with future decisions. Everyone is welcome.

Girl born to Glencoe couple

Adrian Guerrero and Alma Delia Martinez of Glencoe announce the birth of a daughter, Adaleysa Guerrero, born  July 15, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Grandparents are Alma and Jose Martinez of Eagle Pass, Texas, and Carmen and Lauro Guerrero of Glencoe.

Legion Auxiliary names officers

New officers for the Glencoe American Legion Auxiliary Unit 95 include: Mary Sellnow, president; Jean Klitzke, vice president; Marge Farrell, sergeant at arms, Verda Wittenberg, treasurer; and Carolyn Burri, chaplain and secretary.

Daughter born to Keslers

Jerry and Chrissie Kesler of Brownton announce the arrival of a daughter, Myra Christin, born July 15, 2016, at Hutchinson Health. She weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long. She is welcomed home by all of her loving siblings.

Son born to Stewart couple

Kyrstin Cox and Kevan Korhonen of Stewart announce the arrival of a son, Karsen Lee Korhonen, born Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.  Karsen weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Steve and Kandi Cox of Hutchinson and Joel and Wendy Korhonen of Darwin.

Entrants sought for Pola-Czesky Days kiddie parade, set Aug. 6

The Kiddie Parade will again be part of the Silver Lake Pola-Czesky Days.  Participants are needed. Children 0 to 12 years of age can enter.  
Categories are Original, Movie/T.V., and Storybook/
Cartoon. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, in front of the Silver Lake Auditorium. Prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place winners in each category.

Heat drives music in the park into the auditorium

The intense heat forced Silver Lake Music in the Park to be moved to the Silver Lake Auditorium Thursday, July 21, and drew a crowd of about 166 people.
On Thursday, July 28, the George Palma Band will provide music starting at 7 p.m. Grace Bible Church will serve lunch consisting of Mr. Rib sandwiches, chips, pickle, dessert and beverage starting at 6 p.m. The puppets from the church will perform starting at 6:15 p.m.

Gwendolyn G. Dvorak, 89, of Glencoe

Gwendolyn “Gwen” G. Dvorak, 89, of Glencoe, died Monday, July 18, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 21, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Tony Stubeda as the celebrant.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, Eric, Jamie, Josh, Matt, Brian, Brianna, Cassie, Cheslie, Preston, Cagney, Payton, Devon, Teagan, Mitch and Caitlin.
Interment was in the St. Pius X Catholic Cemetery.
