Son born to Glencoe couple

Brianna Giese and Kurtis Lindee of Glencoe announce the birth of a son, Kayge Raymond Lindee, on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Kayge weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 21 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Sheila and Darcy Husted of Hutchinson, Craig Giese of Glencoe and Koren and Carl Lindee of Glencoee.

Girl born to Cokato couple

Shauna Christina Posusta and Colton Paul Kruzel of Cokato announce the arrival of a daughter, McKayla Mae Kruzel, born Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. McKayla weighed 8 pounds and was 211⁄2 inches long. She joins a brother, Levi Lukas, 4. Grandparents are Jim and Chris Posusta of Glencoe and Roman and Jennie Kruzel of Howard Lake.

Silver Lake gets one bid for building demolition

 The city of Silver Lake received one bid for consideration to raze the buildings at 121 and 125 Main Street at its Aug. 15 meeting.
That bid came from Litzau Excavating, Inc., of Lester Prairie, for $107,500, which would include tearing down the two properties, removing the material and filling in the hole.
It does not include any permits or asbestos abatement costs, if needed.

3 Hutch teens hurt in one-vehicle crash

Three Hutchinson teen-agers were injured in a one-vehicle rollover north of Buffalo Lake on Friday just before midnight, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office. The accident was reported at 11:50 p.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, Marcus Smahel, 16, of rural Hutchinson, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado east on 850th Avenue in Boon Lake Township when he swerved to miss a dog in the roadway, lost control and entered the ditch. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest in a field. One of the three occupants was ejected.

Herman E. Miller, 75, of Brownton

Herman Miller, 75, of Brownton, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with the Rev. R. Allan Reed officiating. Vicki Herrmann was the organist. Soloist Darwin Frauendienst sang “Rock of Ages.” Congregational hymns were “In the Garden” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”

Alice M. Friauf, 79, of Glencoe

Alice M. Friauf, 78, of Glencoe, formerly of Hutchinson, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 19, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
Casket bearers were Dale Horton, Craig Thran, Jeff and Russ Duenow, and Justin and Jeremy VonBerge.
Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Alice Friauf was born July 7, 1938, in Hutchinson, the daughter of George and Agnes (Schroeder) Baseman.

Leona A. Nowak, 64, of Hutchinson

Leona A. Nowak, 64, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term and Hospice Care.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Aug. 22, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Revs. Tony Stubeda and Paul Schumacher as concelebrants. Alice Nowak was the organist and Shirley Nowak was the reader. Urn bearer was Leo J. Nowak. Interment was in the Holy Family Cemetery.

Beverly Ann Schmidt, 81, of NYA

Beverly Ann (Johnson) Schmidt, 81, of Norwood Young America, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 20, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in rural Hamburg with the Rev. Daniel Schnabel officiating. Carol Lagergren was the organist. Alan and Orrin Herrmann sang “On Eagle’s Wings.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Bruins win first state tourney game since 1967

 It was an historic evening – as well as a damp one – as Brownton defeated Jordan 3-1 on Saturday, Aug. 20. The victory was the Bruins’ first in state tournament play since finishing third in 1967 and it came as they played as the visiting team on their home field.

Blue Jays begin title defense by pummeling Springfield

Plato demonstrated it is every bit ready and willing to defending its Class C state championship as the Blue Jays decimated Springfield 11-1 in their state tournament opener on Sunday, Aug. 21, in Dassel.
The Tigers briefly held a 1-0 first inning lead following a leadoff double and a two-out bloop single off Plato starting pitcher Chris Odegaard. 
However, the blemish only appeared to anger the hurler and his teammates.
