BARK sets foosball, bean bag tournaments

Brownton Area Resources for Kids (BARK) is sponsoring its eighth annual human foosball and bean bag tournament on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Brownton softball field.
Along with the two tournaments, other activities are planned throughout the day.
The deadline to register a foosball team is Aug. 8, nad registrations may be made by calling Mark Cacka at 320-510-1357, or Michelle Headlee at 320-510-1958.
The bean bag tournament starts at 10:30 a.m., with registration from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Or teams may pre-register by calling Todd Kalenberg at 320-582-1605.


Marie Richards’ grandson assumes command of Special Forces Group

Lt. Col. Andrew Ries, son of Janice (Richards) Ries and grandson of Marie Richards, Stewart, assumed command of the 1st Battalion 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Panzer Kaserne, Boblinger, Germany, at the change of command ceremony on July 7.

Christina Duffy and Francisco Lopez of Glencoe announce the arrival of a daughter, Milly Kay Lopez, born Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Milly weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 191⁄2 inches long at birth. She joins a sister, Alicia Lopez. Grandparents are LuAnn Duffy of Cokato, Al Duffy of Howard Lake and Alicia and Francisco Lopez of Matamoros, Mexico.

Robert and Lindsay Wisch of Winthrop announce the birth of a son, Findley Liam Wisch, born June 28, 2016, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. Findley weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 19 inches long at birth. He is welcomed by siblings Kryptan and Priya. Grandparents are Mark and Lori Dammann of Glencoe, Allen and Julie Krueger of Winthrop and John and Earlene Wisch of Brownton. Great-grandparents are JoAnn Lipke of Glencoe, Mel and Mary Liebel of Redwood Falls, and Virginia Ernst of Glencoe.

Wedding - Polzin-Haapala

Erin Polzin and Ben Haapala were united in marriage Saturday, May 21, 2016, in the Masonic West River Park band shell in Hutchinson.
A reception and dinner followed the ceremony at Days Inn in Hutchinson.
Parents of the couple are Myron and Patty Polzin of Cokato and Michael and Lori Haapala of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Grandparents include Clarence and Anne Juncewski of Silver Lake, Marion and the late Sherman Haapala of Dassel and the late Wilmer and Mary Polzin of Cokato.


Douglas D. Herrmann, 62, of Glencoe

Douglas Donald Herrmann, 62, of Glencoe, died Friday, July 26, 2016, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
A private funeral service was held.
Douglas Donald Herrmann was born Sept. 30, 1953, in Waconia, the son of Donald and Mavis (Oelke) Herrmann. He was baptized as an infant on Oct. 25, 1953, and confirmed in his faith as a youth on June 11, 1967, both by the Rev. H.J. Malotky at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle. He received his education in Arlington and graduated from the Arlington-Green Isle High School with the class of 1971.


Henry A. Becker Jr., 91, of Glencoe

Henry August Becker Jr., 91, of Glencoe, died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 31, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “Oh, God, Our Help in Ages Past.”


James Harry Klopp, 83, of Glencoe

James “Jim” Klopp, 83, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at his home. A private graveside service was held in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
James Harry Klopp was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Fairmont, the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Schultz) Klopp. He was educated in Fairmont, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954, serving his country in Germany.


Dorothy Christensen, 98, Hutchinson

Dorothy Bertha Christensen, 98, of Hutchinson, died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Hutchinson Health Hospital in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 26, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Paulus Pilgrim officiating. Shirley Holtz was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Rock of Ages,” “How Great Thou Art”and “He Leadeth Me.”
Casket bearers were Rick Bethke, Dwayne Bethke, Dave Christensen, Chad Christensen, Ted Christensen, Tom R. Christensen and Scott Salonek.


Dana L. Reed, 74, formerly of Glencoe

Dana L. Reed, 74, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016, of pancreatic cancer at the Seasons Hospice home near Rochester.
A memorial service was held July 29 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Roch-ester.  Interment will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m., in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
