Panthers past and future line up for anthem

Members of the current Glencoe-Silver Lake varsity girls’ basketball team lined up with players from coach Clark Christenen’s GSL fifth-grade girls’ squad for the national anthem prior to the Panthers’ game against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday, Jan. 5. The fifth-graders had the opportunity to hit the court for a scrimmage at halftime of the varsity contest.

Barry wins service award

Catholic United Financial Council 044 of Glencoe announces that Pat Barry of Glencoe is its 2016 Community Service Award winner. Barry, who may be remembered as the manager of the Glencoe Ben Franklin Store, has always been active member of St. Pius X Church, by distributing communion at Orchard Estates, teaching catechism for many years, washing dishes at St. Pius X School and lending a hand when needed.

Locals named to SDSU list

Several area students were named to the South Dakota State University fall semester dean’s list. To be named to the list, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Locals named to the list include Erika Mielke, Lindsay Miller and McKayla White, all of Brownton; Kelly Arnold, Kelly Beneke, Jenna Haag, Madison Kalenberg, Abbie Nistler and Sadie Paumen, all of Glencoe; and Lilianna Mallak, Silver Lake.

Winn accepted at Gustavus

Alyson Winn has applied for and been accepted into the education department at Gustavus Adolphus College. She also has been chosen to be a part of the prestigious honor society in education, Kappa Delta Pi, a network of educators working together to support quality education for all. Alyson is the daughter of Tom and Janice Winn of Glencoe.

Woytcke on Alex dean’s list

Nathan Woytcke of Glencoe is among the students who were named to the Alexandria Technical College’s dean’s list for fall semester 2016. Students must attain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale to be named to the dean’s list.
