Volleyball remains on a roll

With eight wins in its last nine matches, it is safe to say that the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team is on a roll.
The Panthers remained on a hot streak last week, sweeping Holy Family Catholic on the road and New London-Spicer at home to improve to 12-7 on the season.
“The season is going really well,” setter Lexi Hansch said. “So far we are really enjoying playing in our new gym.”
GSL headed to Victoria on a high note on Tuesday, Sept. 26, after rallying to defeat Belle Plaine in five sets during “Opening Night” of the Panthers’ new gymnasium one night earlier.

Panthers douse the Fire

For the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team, this autumn’s trip to Holy Family Catholic turned out far different than last season.
After giving up two touchdowns in rapid fashion to set up a 19-13 loss last year, this time the Panthers gave up just one pre-halftime field goal in grinding out a 14-3 victory on Friday, Sept. 29.
“I’m really proud at how our kids played, especially on the defensive side of the ball,” coach Scott Tschimperle said. “We really frustrated Holy Family with some coverages that had them not knowing what to expect.”

Cross-country teams run at Dassel-Cokato

The Glencoe-Silver Lake cross-country teams headed north to Collinwood Park in Cokato for the Dassel-Cokato Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
After a run around the 5,000-meter course, the Panther boys finished second and the girls took fourth out of eight teams competing at the meet.
Tony Fischer led the way for the GSL boys, finishing fifth overall in a time of 18 minutes, 2.50 seconds, as the Panthers tallied 53 points – just five short of Annandale’s meet-winning tally of 48.

GSL soccer blanks Rockford for second win of season

It’s been a long road to victory No. 2 for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team, but the Panthers accomplished the feat on Tuesday, Sept. 26, with a 2-0 defeat of Rockford at Stevens Seminary Stadium.
Goalkeeper Zoe Christensen made 13 saves for her first shutout of the season, with forward Paola Pena and midfielder Emily Thalmann scoring for the home side as part of a five-shot attack.
For Thalmann, the junior co-captain, the goal was her team-high fifth of the season. Pena’s goal was the senior’s first of the season.
