Good Shepherd welcomes new pastor

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe welcomed and installed the Rev. Jon Niebuhr at an installation service on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Niebuhr grew up in Norwood with his parents and seven brothers and attended Mayer Lutheran High School. After he graduated college from St. Cloud State in 1981, he and his wife, Jennifer, spent one year at Concordia Seminary before Niebuhr discerned that the time wasn’t right for him to become a pastor.
“I still had a lot to learn,” said Niebuhr.

Silver Lake Council ponders fees

The Silver Lake City Council continued to review its 2018 fee schedule Monday.
City Clerk Jon Jerabek told the council he had contacted the ambulance billing service to obtain a comparison of fees for ambulance services and worked with the city’s ambulance chief.
Fees for basic life support ranged from $500 in Jackson to nearly $1,700 in Cottage Grove. Mileage charges ranged from $11 to $31.
The city’s current ambulance fee is $650 for basic life support and $11 for mileage.
Jerabek proposed an increase to $750 and $13.

Arnold M. Seefeldt, 83, Lester Prairie

Arnold Martin Seefeldt, 83, of Lester Prairie, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Jane Holasek was the organist. Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “I’m But a Stranger Here” and “Jesus Loves Me.”
Honorary casket bearers were Mandy Lyons, Amy Seefeldt, Alyssa Mclay and Ashley Seefeldt. Casket bearers were Mike Schauer, Billy Schauer, Joey Schauer, Adam Seefeldt, Jason Lyons and Lance Mclay.

Harlan Walter Harms, 74, Green Isle

Harlan Walter Harms, 74, of Green Isle, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Matthew Rauh officiating. Linda Dose was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Abide With Me,” “Beautiful Savior” and “Rock of Ages.”
Casket bearers were Jim Neubarth, Ryan Neubarth, Shawn Neubarth, Ryan Neubarth (Roger’s son), Robert Neubarth, Randy Neubarth and Dan Neubarth.

Rosemary Steinbrecher, 88, Glencoe

Rosemary Ann (Felepe) Steinbrecher, 88, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.
Rosemary Ann (nee Felepe) Steinbrecher was born June 11, 1929, in East Chicago, Indiana, the daughter of Walter and Katharina (Hueser) Felepe.

Donald W. Jasperson, 85, of Dassel

Donald Wayne Jasperson, 85, of Dassel, died Oct. 9, 2017, at Augustana Lakeside Care Center in Dassel.
The funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 13, at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church, Cokato, with interment in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Mr. Jasperson was born Nov. 11, 1931, to Harold and Evelyn (Helgemo) Jasperson. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tracy. He was one of two people in his confirmation class to profess his faith in front of the congregation.

Carol Jane Thiesfeld, 75, of Glencoe

Carol Jane Thiesfeld, 75, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m., at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The Rev. Katherine Rood will officiate, and Vicky Harris will be the organist. Congregational hymns will be “Borning Cry,” “Amazing Grace” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”
Urn bearers will be Bob Thiesfeld and Andrew Bonde. Interment will be at a later date.

Highway department warns motorists of mud on roads

With the fall harvest starting and the abundance of wet weather conditions, motorists are reminded to pay particular attention to mud and other debris on the roadways, according to the McLeod County Highway Department.
Mud that is left on the roadways can create a safety hazard to motorists and motorcycles.
Persons depositing mud and other debris onto public roads and streets are responsible for its removal. Failure to clean up mud and other debris may be punishable as a misdemeanor under Minnesota statutes.

Hutch woman dies in crash near Glencoe

Elizabeth Amber Slepica, 40, of Hutchinson, died Thursday, Oct. 12, in a one-vehicle accident in the area of 155th Street and Koala Road, northwest of Glencoe.
The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported at 7:29 a.m. Responding were the Glencoe Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Allina Ambulance, McLeod County Highway Department, McLeod County Chaplains, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the Hantge Funeral Home, as well as the sheriff’s office. Slepica was declared deceased at the scene.

Jon VanDamme takes on new role as city’s liquor store manager

Jon VanDamme, former Coborn’s director and long-time Glencoe resident, has had a successful first month as liquor store manager. He began on Sept. 19 and took the place of Sue Deckert, who retired mid-September.
For VanDamme, the liquor store manager position came at an opportune time. “I was looking for a job and the timing just turned out right,” said VanDamme.
VanDamme said that since being hired, he has spent a lot of time learning the ins and outs of the liquor business.
