Buffalo man injured in crash in Arlington Oct. 15

A Buffalo man was injured in a one-vehicle crash in the city of Arlington on Sunday, Oct. 15, according to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred about 4:28 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 5 and Fourth Avenue NW in the city. The Arlington fire and ambulance services were dispatched. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the vehicle was on fire.
Robert Alan Herdina, 32, of Buffalo, was taken to Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle, a 1999 Buick Century, was considered a total loss.

Son born to Hutchinson couple

Amy Chermak and Seth Hopkins of Hutchinson announce the birth of their son, Silas Edward Theodore Hopkins, who arrived Oct. 10, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Silas weighed 9 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 221⁄2 inches long. He is welcomed by his grandparents, Edward Chermak of Hector and Alan and Naomi Hopkins of Silver Lake.

Girl born to Glencoe couple

Kari Johnson and John Kunkel of Glencoe announce the birth of their daughter, Vera Ann Kunkel, who arrived Oct. 9, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Vera weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long. She is welcomed by her sister Kora and her grandparents, Bob and Lori Kunkel of Glencoe, Geoff and Leann Johnson of Windom, Verna and Harold Kunkel of Glencoe and Clara Johnson of Windom.

Boy born to Glencoe couple

Maria Avilez Benitez and Salvador Perez of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Erik Perez Avilez, who arrived Oct. 5, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Erik weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He is welcomed by his brother William.

Paumen receives scholarship

South Dakota State University junior Sadie Paumen is receiving the Peggy Wanta nursing scholarship in support of the Jackrabbit Guarantee this academic year. Paumen is the daughter of Joseph and Ane Paumen of Glencoe.

Boy born to Silver Lake couple

Megan and Lucas Gilhousen announce the birth of their son, Payson Larry Gilhousen, who arrived Oct. 19, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Payson weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 19 inches long. He is welcomed by his brother Curtis and his grandparents, Larry and Jeanette Tongen of Brownton and Kathy Gilhousen of Hutchinson.

Dammann receives award

William Dammann, son of Dave and Karen Dammann of Glencoe and Kathy Dammann of Annandale, received the Donald R. Zander Alumni Award for Student Leadership from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. The scholarship is for $2,000. William Dammann studied human resources and industrial relations at the Carlson School of Management, and graduated Magna Cum Laude in May. He is working as a compensation analyst at U.S. Bank.

LaVerne A. Trocke, 84, of Hamburg

LaVerne A. Trocke, 84, of Hamburg, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m., at Church of Peace in Norwood Young America with the Rev. Dale Inman and Chaplain Helmar Heckel officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday one hour prior to the service, all at the church.
Casket bearers are Tamara Retka, Chad Hoese, Jon Hoese, Clinton Dammann and April Dammann. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Norwood Young America.

Eleanora Lamp, 96, of Brownton

Eleanora (Penk) Lamp, 96, of Brownton, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart.
Eleanora (Penk) Lamp was born Oct. 22, 1920, to Ida (Hoeck) and Otto Penk in Stewart
She was united in marriage to Jake Lamp on Oct. 3, 1943, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, where she was a lifelong member.

Eleanora Lamp, 96, of Brownton, died Thursday, Oct. 19 at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe. Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart. The family thanks you in advance for your condolences and donations.
