A little good news in the midst of negativity stories

To the Editor:
There are so many negative stories in the news — it is time for a positive message.
A resident of Brownton, Becky Espinosa, entered a contest by Chick-fil-A, a nationwide restaurant chain. The question was what would you do with 50 sandwiches from that facility. Becky said she would hand them out to residents of Midway and Parkview apartments in Brownton and the residents at Shade Tree in Brownton. She won.
On Thursday, Oct. 26, the sandwiches were delivered and handed out.

Veterans Day is coming up Saturday, Nov. 11

To the Editor:
Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017; it is a legal holiday in the United States honoring all veterans of the armed forces. Veterans are men and women who have served or are serving in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Air Force.

Drivers suffer minor injuries in 2-car crash

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, near Green Isle. The accident was reported at about 10:30 a.m.
According to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Donald William Dammann, 77, of Glencoe, was driving westbound on 190th Street in Sibley county and had slowed to make a right turn onto 391st Avenue when his 1996 Ford pickup was rear-ended by a 2008 Dodge Avenger driven by Nicole Kristine Roepke, 44, of Arlington.

GSL Veterans Day program set Nov. 10

Glencoe-Silver Lake High School’s annual Veterans Day program will be Friday, Nov. 10, at 10:10 a.m., in the Purple Gymnasium at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School.
The guest speaker will be Matthew Tiernan, 28, who is currently a U.S. Army recruiter in Mankato.
Tiernan, originally from Andover, joined the Army in June 2007 as an infantryman and graduated from basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was first stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, from where he was deployed in 2008 for 10 months in Iraq.

Theresa H. Wiederholt, 77, of Winsted

Theresa “Terri” Helen Wiederholt, 77, of Winsted, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Oct. 27, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with the Revs. Joseph Mary and Paul Schumacher officiating. Alice Nowak was the organist.
Casket bearers were Justin Hertzog, Michael Hertzog, David Hertzog, Luke Hertzog, Jacob Hertzog and Brett Hertzog.

Margaret A. Jumer, 104, Naperville, Ill.

Margaret A. Jumer, 104, of Naperville, Illinois, formerly of Glencoe and Crosslake, Minnesota, and Crest Hill, Illinois, died peacefully Oct. 14, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, at 2:30 p.m., at Glencoe Catholic Cemetery, Pleasant Avenue N, Glencoe.
She was born Aug. 17, 1913, in Adrian, the daughter of the late Yolande and Harry Williams.

Leona Helen Karg, 92, of Hutchinson

Leona Karg, 92, of Hutchinson, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township with the Rev. Eugene DeVries officiating. Jane Vacek was the organist. Soloist Theresa Wemhoff performed a special song for Mom. Congregational hymns were “Abide With Me,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Tim Krasen, Lynn Milbrett, John Kalenberg, Jon Hoff, Del Prieve and Brian Schuette. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Ruth Ella Randt, 89, of Glencoe

Ruth Ella (Boike) Randt, 89, of Glencoe, died peacefully Oct. 28, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 30, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato with the Rev. Tyson Mastin officiating. Yvonne Schuette was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Jesus Still Leads On,” “Just As I Am,” “Nearer, My God to Thee,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Abide With Me.”
Casket bearers were Mike Henning, Darron Alsleben, Jeremy Parpart, Nathan Randt, Eric Randt and Matthew Randt. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Donald Lloyd Blum, 84, of Glencoe

Donald “Don” Lloyd Blum, 84, of Glencoe, formerly of Stewart, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart with the Rev. Mahlon Bekedam officiating. Jan Heins will be the organist. Special music by Carol Maiers and Lori Bleck will be “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.” Congregational hymns will be “He Leadeth Me,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “When Peace, Like a River.”

Biscay woman dies in construction accident

Jacqueline Jill Brueggemeier, 55, of Biscay, died at a construction site in Delano on Wednesday, Oct. 25, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
Brueggemeier was driving a dump truck for William Mueller & Sons, Inc., at a road construction project. While Brueggemeier was outside of her truck, another dump truck backed over her. The other truck was owned by Molnau Trucking LLC and was driven by a 39-year-old Eden Valley woman.
Authorities said the accident remains under investigation, and no charges are pending at this time.
