Mass killings becoming all too commonplace

The victims are piling up; the answers are not: why have there been so many mass killings of late?
Coming on the heels of the slaughter at a country music festival in Las Vegas: an alleged terrorist drives onto a crowded bike path in New York, killing eight and injuring 11. On Sunday, a gunman opened fire in a small, rural Texas church, killing 26 and injuring far more.

Mystery solved: ad breaks in pro hockey

I recently solved one of life’s great mysteries. How does TV slip in commercials during an ice hockey game?
First of all, you have to understand that ice hockey is a constant-movement, constant-action sport. It stops only when a whistle blows for a penalty, an offsides call or a fight. Gawd forbid if they took a TV commercial break during a fight. Many fans only go for the fights. If a hockey game breaks out, so be it.

World War II letter brings history to life for First Lutheran 8th-grade students

Under the guidance of teacher and principal Dean Scheele, First Evangelical Lutheran School’s eighth-grade class is in the midst of its own little World War II mystery. It is in search of a relative of the late Don Givens, who was a co-pilot in World War II and a friend and crewman of Dean Scheele’s father, Marvin Scheele.
Dean Scheele came across a letter written from Mrs. O.M. Givens, Don Givens’ mother, to Marvin Scheele, after Mrs. Givens received news that her son was tragically killed in a failed B-24 Liberator training mission by Los Angeles, California.
