Retooled girls’ hoop ready for season

It’s been an offseason of change for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team.
The Panthers bid farewell to an all-time talent in guard Maddie Monahan and graduated four seniors that played for last season’s subsection finalist. However, the squad also welcomed back some familiar faces that figure to make an impact this winter.
“I like how we look,” coach Jeff Monahan said. “We graduated four seniors, but a lot of the kids coming back played last season.”

Youthful wrestling team building for the future

It’ll be a fresh-faced team that hits the mat for the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling program this winter.
“There’s a lot of teaching going on right now,” coach Lance Wurm said. “Guys are learning and coming along well.”
Thirty-three student-athletes signed up for the squad this season, with 17 of those still in either seventh or eighth grade. There’s no doubt about it, the Panthers are going to be a very young team.
“We’ve got a lot of first-year wrestlers,” Wurm said. “A lot of inexperience, so we’re going with that right now.”

A whole lot of turnover for GSL boys’ basketball team

“It’s going to be different this year,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “We don’t have eight seniors, we don’t have any two-year starters, and we are not real deep.”
