Panthers knock off top-ranked Tigers

Following a furious half of girls’ basketball between Glencoe-Silver Lake and visiting Hutchinson on Friday, Dec. 8, a promising contest appeared to be headed towards loss No. 1 of the season for the home side.
Not long after taking a 31-23 first-half lead as guard McKenna Monahan set out on what became a 40-point night, the Panthers went into halftime trailing the Tigers 41-37.
As the second half began, the Tigers – which had ascended to the No. 1 spot in the Class AAA rankings one day earlier – began to pull away as the contest moved perilously close to “good loss” territory for GSL.

GSL boys remain undefeated

It was all set up to be quite a barnburner between the Glencoe-Silver Lake and Hutchinson boys’ basketball teams on Friday, Dec. 8.
The two teams remained locked in a one-possession contest throughout the first half of their meeting at GSL. The Panthers clung to a 38-35 halftime edge with 18 minutes to play.
And then the hosts opened the second half with a 20-3 run.
“Honestly, I hadn’t looked at the scoreboard forever,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “Then, all of a sudden, I see us up by 20.”

Panther matmen claim first win of season

The Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team claimed its first victory of the season during a triangular meet in the GSL gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
In its opening meet of the night, the Panthers hung on to defeat Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 39-34 and earn coach Lance Wurm his 100th career victory.
After going down 6-0 early, GSL/LP rallied with back-to-back wins by fall from Sawyer Varpness at 113 pounds and Aaron Higgins at 120.
