Rachel and Killian Mcmains of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Apollo Isaak Mcmains, who arrived Dec. 11, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Apollo weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 22 inches long at birth. He is welcomed by his grandparents, Pam Ruble of Glencoe and Ric and Shannon Mcmains of Litchfield.

Local receives scholarship

Brittney Medina, daughter of Benito and Melinda Medina of Brownton, has received the Vera Fuller Scholarship from South Dakota State Univeristy. Medina is a 2017 Glencoe-Silver Lake High School graduate and she is majoring in early childhood education.

Silver Lake Council approves 4.29 percent tax levy increase

The Silver Lake City held its annual truth-in-taxation hearing Monday night.
City Clerk Jon Jerabek presented the proposed 2018 city budget and levy to the council and members of the public in attendance.
The city’s total 2018 budget of $838,932 is a 9.56 percent increase over the 2017 budget of $765,728.
The levy was certified at $500,726, a 4.29 percent increase or $20,599, from 2017.
The increased budget includes a 2 percent cost-of-living increase for employees and 3.98 percent health insurance premium increase, as well provisions for the 2018 elections.

Steven Charles Weber, 54, Silver Lake

Steven Charles Weber, 54, of Silver Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at his residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today (Wednesday, Dec. 20), at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Paul Schumacher as the celebrant.
Honorary casket bearers are his sons and brothers, Spenser Weber and Severin Weber, Todd Weber, Mike Weber, Gene Weber and Brad Weber. Casket bearers are John Bayerl, Carey Kieser, John Entinger, Pat Fogarty, Sam Anderson and Jason Kalis. Interment will follow the Mass in Holy Family Cemetery.
