Girls' cagers start season with pair of home wins

It was a top notch start to the season for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team as the Panthers took down visiting St. Peter and Tri-City United last week to begin their 2017-18 campaign at 2-0.
“It was a very good start for us,” coach Jeff Monahan said. “You never know how it is going to go starting a season, but I think those scrimmages we had a couple weeks ago really helped us be ready.”

One in win column for boys' basketball

It’s an age-old adage: winning ugly is better than losing ugly.
While the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team’s season-opening defeat of visiting St. Peter on Friday, Dec. 1, was far from pretty, the overhauled Panthers did display a high degree of tenacity in earning a 59-53 victory.
“It was not a thing of beauty, but it is always better to win than to lose,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “We can still learn a lot from that game while not feeling bad about a loss.”
