Reform of prevailing wage law will benefit state

To the Editor:
One of my chief authored bills, HF508, updates prevailing wage provisions and raises the cost threshold for state government-funded projects that require prevailing wage. Currently, prevailing wage laws only apply to state subsidized projects that exceed a certain dollar amount.

 An early start on a strong farm bill

A sugar beet grower told us about how crop insurance is working for his farm in the Red River Valley. A school board member in Canby is concerned about meeting the food needs of local families. An ethanol producer shared his plans to expand his operation and hire more workers. And a Morristown turkey grower knows all too well the risks that come in her line of work thanks to outbreaks like the 2015 avian flu.

Florence Hovda, 104, of Hutchinson

Florence Hovda, 104, of Hutchinson, formerly of Brownton, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 11, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Paul Baker officiating. Bev Wangerin was the organist. Soloist Shyann Topel sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “There’s No Disappointment in Heaven.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Cory Deming operated the sound board.
