Loretta Mary (Witthus) Templin, 94, of Cosmos, formerly of Norwood Young America, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Cedar Crest in Cosmos.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America with the Rev. Eric Hutchison officiating. Rita Luecke was the organist. Soloist Matthew Foss sang “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Congregational hymns were “Chief of Sinners, Though I Be,” “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” and “Rock of Ages.”

Albert Stuedemann Jr., 80, of Glencoe

Albert Stuedemann Jr., 80, of Glencoe, died Feb. 17, 2017, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 24, at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel in Mankato. Private interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

Orlin ‘Pete’ Stockman, 88, of Glencoe

Orlin “Pete” Stockman, 88, of Glencoe, formerly of Plato, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato with the Rev. Brian Brosz officiating. Diane Anderson was the organist. Soloist Bob Becker sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “Borning Cry,” “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”

Silver Lake Council adopts storm utility fee

The ordinance has been in the works for months and the Silver Lake City Council approved a storm water utility at its Feb. 21 meeting.
City Clerk Kerry Venier said the purpose of the utility is not to make a lot of money, but to lessen the tax burden on the cost of maintenance and repairs of the system.
The new utility is estimated to generate around $13,200 annually. The city has spent nearly $72,000 on repairs and maintenance from 2011-2016.

Blizzard Blast raises over $38,000 for hospice

To the Editor:
Our 11th annual Blizzard Blast Hospice Charity Event was again a very successful fundraiser! The event raised over $38,000 for the music and massage therapy programs for our hospice patients in McLeod County and the surrounding area.
The event at Glencoe City Center featured catering by Chef Craig, music by South 40 and also Doug Stuedeman, emcee Dr. Bill Dunbar and special guest speaker Kimberly Phifer.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this meaningful event!
We have set the date for the 2018 event for Friday, Feb 2.

Teen arrested after vehicle chase in Sibley County

Gavin Richard Hill, 17, of Mankato, was arrested Sunday about 9 p.m. after a six-mile vehicle chase in Sibley County.
According to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, LeSueur police officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle, which fled from the city and headed into Sibley County on Sibley County Road 8. A deputy and a Gaylord police officer spotted the vehicle south of Gaylord. The officers pursued the vehicle, which eventually left Sibley County Road 4, hit a stop sign and came to rest in the ditch.

St. Paul woman hurt in 3-vehicle accident

One person was injured in a three-vehicle rear-end accident in Hutchinson Friday, Feb. 24, at about 5:50 p.m.

Supernova dominates at sub-region competition

GSL’s Knowledge Bowlers were busy last weekend. On Friday, they started their post-season with the sub-regional meet in Granite Falls. Then on Saturday, they finished their regular season with an invitational meet in Sartell. The team members represented the school well and brought home some great results.
