Track and field teams prep for sectionals

The Glencoe-Silver Lake track and field teams are in the midst of progressing from their regular season into the postseason, with the subsectional and Section 2A meets coming up fast on the calendar.

Girls' golf nears sectionals

With the close of the regular season coming up fast, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ golf team competed in a trio of meets over the past week. Just two more remain on the schedule before the Section 2AA Tournament begins at the New Prague Golf Course on Friday, May 26.

Glencoe Country Club hosted the Wright County Conference West for two meets in one on Wednesday, May 10.

Boys' golf takes two eights

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ golf team got out the sticks for a pair of Wright County Conference West matchups last week, with three more competitions on the schedule for this week.

Albion Ridges Golf Course in Annandale hosted the WCC West squads for a meet hosted by Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday, May 16.

The Panthers finished eighth over 18 holes, with Christian Higgins pacing the squad with a card of 92. Damien Silus and Nick Schmidt each carded a 98, with Jayden Lachermeier posting a 105. Reid VanHove and Ethan Wraspir logged identical scores of 111.

Playoff time for softball

The postseason looms for the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team, as the Panthers found out that they will travel to Watertown-Mayer for the Section 5AA opener on Friday afternoon.

GSL was handed the No. 5 seed for the 5AA East subsection after entering this week on a six-game losing streak. The Panthers came up short on all three of their games last week, falling 10-2 at Mound Westonka on Tuesday, May 9, and then losing at Dassel-Cokato and Norwood-Young America to close out the stretch.

Win streak comes to an end for baseball

Just as the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team hit the high point of its season, the Panthers suddenly stumbled a couple times last week.
GSL opened its most recent three-game stretch by winning its ninth game in a row in a 5-3 victory at Mound Westonka on Tuesday, May 9, that avenged an earlier-season loss to the White Hawks.
However, the remainder of the stretch was not nearly as kind to the Panthers as the team suffered losses of 7-2 and 5-2 at Dassel-Cokato and Norwood-Young America, respectively, to close out the week.
