Blue Jays fall to Cubs

The Plato Blue Jays had a tough time at Chaska on Thursday, May 18, dropping a 10-2 decision to the host Cubs.
Plato held a quick 1-0 lead on its hosts after Nolan Lepel launched an RBI triple to score Matt Odegaard in the top of the first inning.

Brownton falls at Young America

The Brownton Bruins suffered the team’s first loss of the season after coming up on the short side of a 6-1 loss at Young America on Friday, May 19.
On a brisk evening, the Cardinals heated up quickly with three runs in the first inning and two more in the third to take an insurmountable 5-0 lead. 
Young America increased its edge to 6-0 before Brownton scored its lone run of the contest in the top of the sixth as Dylan McCormick drove home Nick Heller with an RBI single.

Boys’ golf wraps up WCC West schedule

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ golf team headed into the final stretch of the season by wrapping up the Wright County Conference West schedule last week.
Litchfield Golf Course hosted the second-to-last conference competition of the year on Tuesday, May 16. The Panthers finished eighth with a team score of 383.

Track and field squads fifth at WCC West meet

Both the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ and girls’ track and field teams claimed fifth-place finishes in their respective competitions at the Wright County Conference West championship meet on Tuesday, May 16, at Dassel-Cokato.
The Panther boys were beat out by one-half point for fourth place, claiming an even 85 points to 85.5 for New London-Spicer. Mound Westonka won the boys’ title with 143 points. 

Panthers stumble into playoffs

Losing four of its last five regular-season games is not exactly how the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team wanted to enter the playoffs, but that is the hand that has been dealt.
Aside from the bright spot of an 11-1 defeat of Annandale on Tuesday, May 16, the past couple weeks has seen quite a dropoff from the nine-game winning streak the Panthers posted mid-season.

GSL tops Watertown-Mayer in softball playoff opener

An eight-game losing streak came to a close as the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team won its postseason opener with a 3-2 victory at Watertown-Mayer to kick off the Section 5AA Tournament on Friday, May 19.
The Panthers never trailed in the game. Brianna Wraspir scored GSL’s first run in the second inning by scoring on a two-out error after initially getting on base with a single.
