Softball scorched by Rockets

The Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team took two on the chin in its lone day of competition last week, falling hard in a doubleheader at Rockford on Friday, April 28.

Losses of 11-1 and 13-1 dropped the Panthers back to .500 at 4-4 on the season. Three of GSL’s four losses have been of the 10-run variety.

The Rockets zoomed past the Panthers with a seven-run first inning in game one and never looked back. Kylie Ness scored GSL’s lone run in the sixth inning of the 10-run loss.

Glencoe blood drive collects 120 units

At the Wednesday, April 26, American Red Cross blood drive at the Glencoe City Center, 120 units of blood were collected. The goal was 122 units.
Jennifer Pokornowski was a first-time donor. Donors reaching new milestones were: Linda Huff, one gallon; Les Engelmann, 16 gallons; Linda Prochaska, 8 gallons; Steven Nelson, 12 gallons; and Mark Schmidt, 17 gallons.
The next blood drive at the Glencoe City Center is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26.

Pedestrian hit by pickup on Highway 212, Stewart

Jacob August Lentz, 26, of Stewart, suffered a broken leg after he was hit by a pickup while walking across Highway 212 in Stewart Saturday at about 10:15 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Lentz was walking southbound across Highway 212 when he was struck by a westbound 1995 Chevrolet Sierra pickup driven by Kenneth Roman Krzmarzick, 68, of Stewart. Krzmarzick was not injured.
According to the state patrol, alcohol was not a factor with the driver; however, there was alcohol involved with the pedestrian.

Caroline Martha Vogt, 87, of Glencoe

Caroline Martha (Voigt) Vogt, 87, of Glencoe, died Monday, April 24, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 1, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “I’m But a Stranger Here,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “Jesus Loves Me.”
Casket bearers were Chad Henke, Josh Henke, Perry Henke, Michael Vogt, John Vogt and Jason Vogt.
