Common Cup Ministry collecting school supplies

Common Cup Ministry will again be supplying school supplies to children in need for the coming school year.
Last year, approximately 500 children in McLeod County applied for, and received, supplies and a backpack. Common Cup relies on donations for the needed supplies or dollars to make this happen.
Organizations, church groups, clubs, families, and individuals are encouraged to donate. All donations are appreciated. Supply lists are available online at  common

IRS rules may affect Trailblazer volunteer drivers

Trailblazer Transit already is having trouble recruiting volunteer drivers, and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will not be making it easier.
At its Thursday meeting, the Trailblazer Joint Powers Board heard from Bev Herfindahl of the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) that the IRS intends to start enforcing its rule that volunteer drivers be reimbursed at the volunteer mileage rate — 14 cents per mile — rather than at the business rate, which is currently 53.5 cents per mile.

CSAH 3 project postponed

The proposed reconstruction of McLeod County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 3 between County Road 1, northeast of Glencoe, and the Carver County line has been postponed.
At the recommendation of McLeod County Highway Engineer John Brunkhorst, the County Board voted June 20 to reject all bids for the project.
Brunkhorst said the lowest bid received, $4.93 million, was above the engineer’s estimate for the cost of the project. Six other bids also were received, all of them higher.
Brunkhorst said the request for bids on the project went out later than planned.

Trailblazer works out new joint powers pact

The three entities who comprise Trailblazer Transit came to a consensus Thursday morning on a new joint powers agreement.
That agreement will now go on to the governing boards of three entities — McLeod County, Sibley County and Wright County Area Transportation (WCAT) — for approval. If all three approve the agreement, it will go into effect Jan. 1, 2018.
The primary two issues the Trailblazer Joint Powers Board came to agreement on Thursday morning were the membership of the board and the split of local share costs.
