Eiden graduates from U.S. Air Force Academy

­­Ethan R. Eiden has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The graduate received a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.    
The academy is a four-year military institution of higher learning that develops and inspires new air and space leaders with a vision for the future. Its curriculum provides instruction, education, training and experience in academics, military training, physical and athletic conditioning, and spiritual and ethical development to all cadets.

Anna Hoernemann and Javier Garcia of Hutchinson announce the arrival of a daughter, Gabriella Marie Garcia, born May 31, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Gabriella weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 19 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Annette Dennin and Ron Hoernemann of Brownton and Virginia Torres and Francisco J. Garcia of Laredo, Texas.

Cheri Grack was named to spring semester 2017 dean’s list at the University of Minnesota –  Crookston. To qualify for a place on the dean’s list, students must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.

Two area students participated in the 160th annual commencement ceremony at St. John’s University in Collegeville on May 14. Reed Dunbar, son of William and Marilyn Dunbar of Waconia, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics; and Ryan Kuester, son of Kevin and Teresa Kuester of Glencoe, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.
 

Alexis Wendlandt graduates

Alexis Wendlandt, daughter of Lisa and Steve Meier of Glencoe, participated in the annual commencement ceremony at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph on May 13. Wendlandt earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in nutrition.
 

Loren William Lange, 75, of Glencoe

Loren William Lange, 75, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 3, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “When Peace, Like a River,” “The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want” and “Abide With Me.”

For years, Shauntel Stahlke’s career path was a clear one. She’d be a pastry chef. She loved baking and was certain that she’d pursue the craft when she graduated from high school.
Those plans were thwarted, though, thanks to two great high school teachers who instilled a love of the outdoors in Stahlke. So much so that when she enrolled in college a few years ago, her major had changed dramatically.


Winthrop man injured in rollover

A Winthrop man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he fell asleep and his car rolled on Highway 15 at 150th Street, south of Hutchinson, on Tuesday, May 30, at 4:30 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Leonard Paul Biermann, 81, of Winthrop, was northbound on Highway 15 in a 2012 Honda CRV when he fell asleep and the vehicle went off the roadway, hit the ditch, and rolled onto its side.
He was extricated from the vehicle by the Hutchinson Fire Department and taken by Allina Ambulance to Hutchinson Health Hospital.
