Brewers topple Watertown

A pair of losses on complete opposite ends of the scoring spectrum gave the Glencoe Brewers a 6-4 record entering this week. The Brewers return home after going 2-1 on last week’s three-game road trip.

Glencoe began last week’s set with a 5-1 win at Watertown on Thursday, June 1. Cole Petersen earned the win with seven innings of three-hit ball, allowing two walks and one run while striking out nine. Tanner Grack tossed the final two innings, allowing no hits and one walk with four K’s.


Christensen, Litzau both earn medals at state meet

It was another scorching pair of days at Hamline University as a trio of Glencoe-Silver Lake student-athletes performed the final act of the Panthers’ 2016-17 sports season at the Class A state track and field meet last weekend.

The meet represented one last donning of GSL colors for two of the three, while it marked a return to the premier stage for the other.

Competing in the shot put were senior Jacob Litzau and junior Zoe Christensen.


Post 5102 opens season at 2-2

The Glencoe VFW Post 5102 baseball team is off to a 2-2 start this season after splitting its opening quartet of contests.

Glencoe opened the summer with a 4-3 loss at St. Michael-Albertville on Thursday, June 1. Adam Garouette led 5102 with two RBI on a 2-for-3 day at the plate, with Preston Sturges logging the team’s other RBI.

Arlington woman hurt in two-vehicle crash

An Arlington woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 212 at Dairy Avenue, east of Glencoe, today (Friday) at about 5:45 p.m.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Nicole Ann Wendinger, 38, of Arlington was westbound on Highway 212 in a 2006 Toyota Corolla and was turning to head southbound on McLeod County Road 1 when her vehicle collided with a 2006 Saturn Vue being driven eastbound on Highway 212 by Heather Shannon Decasas, 37, of Glencoe.

Hennepin Avenue detour to start Monday

Motorists traveling in Glencoe will encounter a short detour starting Monday, June 12, as Twin Cities and Western Railroad Company (TCWR) will be working on the railroad crossing at Highway 22 and Hennepin Avenue, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  Motorists traveling east will go south on Armstrong Avenue and east on Seventh Street.  The road is expected to open Thursday, June 15.
