Gruenhagen earns award

Emily Gruenhagen of Glencoe was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Republican Party’s 7th Congressional District Convention in Thief River Falls on April 22.  The award was presented to her by Craig Bishop, the 7th District’s GOP chairman for her volunteer services which began in 1984 and has spanned 30 years serving in various leading, support and fundraising roles.

Silver Lake’s city clerk moving on after 15 years of service

Kerry Venier has been the face out in front for the city of Silver Lake for 15 years, a tenure that will come to an end June 16 when he leaves his job as city clerk-treasurer for a new job in the utility department for the city of Duluth.
Venier is quick to point out that he is not leaving Silver Lake because he is unhappy there; in fact, he is the first to tout Silver Lake’s reputation as a close-knit community that cares for its residents.


Two injured Saturday in 2-vehicle crash

Two people were injured Saturday, June 3, in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 7 on the east edge of Hutchinson. The accident was reported at 2:11 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Norma Ann Syverson, 86, of Stewart, was driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring and was pulling out of a parking lot to turn westbound on Highway 7 when the vehicle collided with an eastbound 2010 Ford pickup driven by Taylor Jade Niece, 21, of Hutchinson.


Eiden graduates from U.S. Air Force Academy

­­Ethan R. Eiden has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The graduate received a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.    
The academy is a four-year military institution of higher learning that develops and inspires new air and space leaders with a vision for the future. Its curriculum provides instruction, education, training and experience in academics, military training, physical and athletic conditioning, and spiritual and ethical development to all cadets.

Anna Hoernemann and Javier Garcia of Hutchinson announce the arrival of a daughter, Gabriella Marie Garcia, born May 31, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Gabriella weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 19 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Annette Dennin and Ron Hoernemann of Brownton and Virginia Torres and Francisco J. Garcia of Laredo, Texas.

Cheri Grack was named to spring semester 2017 dean’s list at the University of Minnesota –  Crookston. To qualify for a place on the dean’s list, students must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.

Two area students participated in the 160th annual commencement ceremony at St. John’s University in Collegeville on May 14. Reed Dunbar, son of William and Marilyn Dunbar of Waconia, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics; and Ryan Kuester, son of Kevin and Teresa Kuester of Glencoe, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.
