Locals named to dean’s list


The College of St. Scholastica announces local students named to spring 2017 dean’s list. From Glencoe, students are Melissa Mallak, Katlin Stockman and Kacie Walker; from Silver Lake is Heather Worm. Dean’s list members have achieved a 3.75 grade point average or above on a 4.0 scale.
 

Graduate from UW-La Crosse


University of Wisconsin-La Crosse announces its May 2017 graduates. Students earning degrees in May include Travis Rothstein of Glencoe who majored in finanace.
 

Graduate from UW-River Falls


Daniel Raiter of Glencoe was among the 667 students to receive a bachelor’s degree during spring commencement at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in May. He majored in chemistry.

 

Native of Glencoe named chief deputy

Jon Lentz, a native of Glencoe, has been appointed the chief deputy in Stearns County by Sheriff Don Gudmondson.
Lentz is married to Lori (Bandemer), also a native of Glencoe.
He started as a correctional officer in Stearns County in 1991 and was made a deputy in 1997, promoted to sergeant in 2003, to lieutenant in 2007 and to captain in 2016. As a captain, he was in charge of the patrol and investigative divisions in the sheriff’s office.

McLeod County Board updated on restructuring plans at workshop

As part of its department restructuring, McLeod County will soon be pushing for the formation of a public works department, which would include its current highway and parks and fairground departments.
The County Board discussed progress on restructuring and long-range planning at a July 5 workshop session.

Pastor ordained, installed at First Lutheran Church, Glencoe

Peter Thomas Adelsen was ordained as a pastor in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) and installed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Glencoe, at a special service Sunday, July 9.

Brownton Council adopts new assessment policy

In a packed council chambers, the Brownton City Council revised its assessment policy to make assessments more amenable to residents as the city takes on an $8.37 million street and utility project.
John Rodeberg, an engineer with Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) said that when SEH applied the city’s current assessment policy — which pretty much splits costs 50/50 with adjoining properties — some assessments “were extremely high.”

Stewart family hosts 2 exchange youth

Schulze of Stewart are hosting two youth exchange participants through the Lions International Youth Camp and Exchange Program (YCE). This is the first time the Schulze family has hosted YCE participants, although both of their daughters have participated in other countries’ YCEs with Lauren Schulze going to Italy and Norway and Caitlin Schulze going to Australia and France.
“They loved it so we thought we’d try hosting,” says Patty.   

Silver Lake Council approves City Hall space needs study

The Silver Lake City Council approved an agreement with Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc., (SEH) to conduct a space needs study for city hall, the police department and ambulance service for $2,950.
The council met Wednesday, July 5, because of the July Fourth holiday.

Stewart City Council breezes through short agenda, hears annual audit report

The Stewart City Council breezed through some routine items in a 35-minute meeting Monday night.
The most time-consuming item was the 2016 annual audit report, which showed the city gaining in its cash position in its general fund, primarily because it under-budgeted for revenues. Jon Archer, the city auditor, said that a good portion of the revenue increase was because the city received more local government aid (LGA) from the state than it had anticipated.
