City Council weighs whether to drop lawsuit over phosphorus limits

At its Monday meeting, the Glencoe City Council heard reviews from Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc., (SEH) about the possibility of Glencoe receiving the Point Source Implementation Grant (PSIG) with the Public Facilities Authority (PFA) for $7 million for phosphorus-related project costs.
The review also included the possible rate structures that would be required to fund debt service for the wastewater treatment plant expansion and the pre-design activities that must take place before any construction begins.

Food shelf submits funding request to County Board

The McLeod Emergency Food Shelf is asking for an $11,500 contribution from McLeod County in 2018, the County Board heard at its Tuesday meeting.
Commissioner Paul Wright said the request would be referred to the county’s budget committee, with a cautionary statement that the county’s goal is to “hold the budget flat” to its 2017 expenditures.

Movie seeks to bring story of Chief Little Crow to life

The McLeod County Historical Society & Museum will be showing the historical documentary, “Little Crow & the Dakota War,” at the State Theater in Hutchinson at on Sunday, July 23, at 7 p.m.
The event has local and historical significance for McLeod County because Little Crow, the chief of the Dakota people, died on the outskirts of Hutchinson on July 3, 1863, by a settler’s gunshot, roughly seven months after the U.S. Dakota War of 1862 ended.
