Sunday liquor sales successful in first month

Glencoe Wine & Spirits has been open for five Sundays now and sales seem to be going well.
According to Glencoe Wine & Spirits July sales analysis, the average hourly sales during the week (with 13 hours of operation) is $507.70; on Sundays, the average hourly sales (with five hours of operation) is $400.25.

Thalmanns named farm family of year

The Thalmann family of Plato was formally recognized as McLeod County’s Farm Family of the Year by the University of Minnesota at Farmfest on Thursday, Aug. 7.
The honor is given to families who have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing and supporting agriculture and agriculture production.

County Board reviews Morningside project

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners reviewed plans for the extension of Morningside in Glencoe at its Tuesday, Aug. 8, meeting.
The proposed project will extend Morningside from east of Coborn’s north to 16th Street just east of Glencoe-Silver Lake Schools.
The state awarded the project a $2.35 million Local Road Improvement Project (LRIP) grant. That leaves about $2.61 million to be paid by the city of Glencoe, McLeod County and possible rail funding.

City personnel committee discusses management of municipal liquor store

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners reviewed plans for the extension of Morningside in Glencoe at its Tuesday, Aug. 8, meeting.

GSL to start ‘Panther Power Hour’ during lunch hour

During the Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) School Board meeting Monday night, the board members heard numerous updates, including a new plan presented by GSL High School Principal Paul Sparby called the Panther Power Hour, which will take place during the lunch hours at the high school.
The objective of the program, according to Sparby, is to provide students with options for academic support during lunch.
The idea of a “high school recess” of sorts has been very popular in recent years and Sparby has spoken to different schools that have implemented their own type of lunch program.
