Man extricated from vehicle after accident

A Gaylord man had to be extricated from a vehicle by the Gaylord Fire Department after a one-vehicle crash Saturday, Aug. 12, at about 5:15 p.m. The man, a passenger in the vehicle, was identified as Michael George Grames, 45, of Gaylord. He was taken by the Gaylord Ambulance to Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
According to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel Lee Guinn, 35, of Henderson was eastbound on County Road 8 in a 2010 GMC truck, and went off the curve near 491st Avenue, about seven miles south of Gaylord.
The accident remains under investigation.

Gaylord motorcyclist dies in 3-vehicle crash

A Gaylord motorcyclist died in a three-vehicle accident in Gaylord on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Brian Reynold Severin, 59, of Gaylord, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident was reported at 10:34 a.m.

Annual Glencoe fly-in, sweet corn, bratwurst feed set for Sept. 2

Glencoe Chapter 92 of the Experimental Aircraft Association, known as the South Central Flyers, will have its annual sweet corn and bratwurst feed and fly-in on Saturday, Sept. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Glencoe Municipal Airport (Vernon Perschau Field).
A reasonably priced sweet corn and bratwurst meal will be served with all the trimmings. Discounted tickets are available in advance. Children eat free.

City to re-advertise for liquor store job

The Glencoe City Council at its Monday night meeting continued discussion about the Glencoe Wine & Spirits liquor store manager position.
The City Council officially approved the new job description and increased job points for the position. Council Member Gary Ziemer moved to approve the job description for the liquor store manager. Council Member John Schrupp seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-1 with Council Member Allen Robeck voting no.

County considering buying Jungclaus property on Chandler

McLeod County is negotiating to buy the vacant Jungclaus Implement building on Chandler Avenue in Glencoe.
The County Board held a closed session Tuesday — as it has a couple of times — to discuss real estate negotiations on the property.
County Administrator Pat Melvin said the county is considering purchasing the property to help with space needs.
“We have some areas where we are bursting at the seams,” said Melvin. In addition, he said, the county continues to contend with its aging Health and Human Services Building on Ford Avenue, which was the former Glenhaven Nursing Home.

Kids helping kids: Day care takes on service project

Kristin Kohout of Glencoe and her day-care kids are collecting items for Wings, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children placed into the foster care system.
This is the second year that Kohout has organized a summer service project for her day-care kids.
“Last year, we did cinch sacks,” said Kohout. “We put a baby blanket in there and a toy and some toiletries for parents, and then we brought them to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.”
