Board Chair Christianson called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. The following members were present: Kuester, Alsleben, Lindeman, Twiss and VonBerge. Director Kuester was absent. In addition, Superintendent Chris Sonju; Business Manager Michelle Sander, Katie Ballalatak/McLeod County Chronicle; Milan Alexander, Technology Staff/Joey Cullen, School Principal: Bill Butler, and Administrative Assistant Brenda Langanki were in attendance

Roadside Cutting Notices
Persons owning or occupying real estate adjoining a township road are required to cut weeds and grass growing in the township road ditches adjacent to their property by October 10, 2017. Ditches need to be cut as to prevent snow from piling on township roads. This also refers to trees, rocks, brush and the like on road right-of-way. Do not place cut weeds and grass on the road surfaces as this causes problems when grading roads.

Mayor Wilson called the regular meeting of the City Council to order at 7:00 p.m. Members present: Neid, Ziemer, Schrupp, Robeck and Alexander. Also present: City Administrator Mark Larson, City Attorney Mark Ostlund, Finance Director Trippel, Assistant City Administrator Dan Ehrke, Police Chief Raiter, Public Works Directors Schreifels and Voigt.
Motion to approve the consent agenda as presented by Member Alexander, second by Member Neid. All members voted in favor.

Helen Baker hot topic at School Board workshop

The Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) School Board held its work session on the Helen Baker Elementary property Monday night to discuss the building proposal for the site, the city of Glencoe’s purchase agreement for the Helen Baker site and what it means for the land to qualify as a redevelopment tax increment financing (TIF) district.

County Board proposes 7% levy hike for ’18

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners set a preliminary 2018 levy at $21.11 million Tuesday, a 7 percent increase over its 2017 levy of $19.73 million.
The County Board and its administration offered a summary sheet outlining the need for the increase, citing unfunded federal and state mandates, the ramifications of a market study on positions and wages, rising health care costs, rising Social Services costs and increasing utility and maintenance costs.

GHPS learns about the life of Martin McLeod

John Lofdahl of Hutchinson, known for his participation in historical re-enactments regarding the fur trade in the Upper Midwest, visited the Glencoe Historic Preservation Society (GHPS) during its annual meeting Tuesday, Sept. 19, to give a short presentation on Martin McLeod, the founder of McLeod County.

Panthers rally past Albany in Streich’s return

New gym opens with Monday Night Volleyball

Senior running back Carsen Streich returned to the backfield for the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team after a long absence due to an injured spleen suffered this past summer. Streich ran like he hadn’t missed a step, gaining 125 yards and scoring two touchdowns on the ground – including a 66-yard game-winning spring in the fourth quarter – as the Panthers rallied to defeat visiting Albany 21-14 on Friday, Sept. 22.
