Stewart sets preliminary levy increase at 3% for 2018 budget

Without much discussion, the Stewart City Council on Monday night approved a preliminary 2018 budget with a 3 percent levy increase.
Mayor Jason Peirce said the proposed 2018 budget was balanced, as far as the items that are supported by the general levy.
In 2017, the city levied $404,564. With the proposed 3 percent levy increase, the city would levy $416,701 in 2018, an increase of $12,137 in revenue.

Daughter born to Ordunos

Amanda and Todd Orduno of Norwood Young America announce the birth of a daughter, Keaton Samantha Orduno, who arrived Sept. 6, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Olivia weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 21 inches long. She is welcomed by siblings Lucas, Cassie, Kellen and Payton, and her grandparents, Margie Rognli of Silver Lake and Tommy and Samantha Orduno of Bloomington.

Daughter born to Schuettes

Lacey and Timothy Schuette of Plato announce the birth of a daughter, Olivia June Schuette, who arrived Sept. 7, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Olivia weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long. She is welcomed by her grandparents, Ron and Mary Bruch of Glencoe, Merle and Sharon Schuette of Glencoe, Curt and Nalea Huls of Hutchinson and the late LuAnn Huls.

Becker graduates from BSU

Lindsey Becker of Glencoe graduated from Bemidji State University this spring. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary teacher education.

Brownton City Council turns down increase request from Pioneerland

The Brownton City Council decided Sept. 5 to not give Pioneerland Library System a requested 3 percent increase for the city’s contribution toward the Brownton Public Library expenses.
In fact, citing the fact that the library is not being fully staffed and therefore is not always open for scheduled hours, the City Council approved a motion to budget $5,857 for 2018, which is $1,247 less than the $7,104 it budgeted in 2017. Pioneerland’s request for 2018 was for $7,317. The figure settled upon, $5,857, is the state-certified minimum level of support for Brownton.

Clarence Carl Patzold, 90, of Glencoe

Clarence Carl Patzold, 90, of Glencoe, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Clarence Carl Patzold was born Nov. 27, 1926, in Stewart, the son of Max and Mary Patzold. He received his education in Stewart. He entered active military service in the U.S. Army on March 26, 1951, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He received an honorable discharge on July 28, 1951.

Alno Ida Rickert, 97, of Brownton

Alno Rickert, 97, of Brownton, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at the Shade Tree Retirement Center in Brownton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with the Rev. R. Allan Reed officiating. Norma Witte was the organist. Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Burt Bauer, Dorran Rickert, Lowell Rickheim, Harlan Rickheim, Steven Twite and Dennis Bussler.
Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Brownton.

Michael P. Tesch, 67, of Glencoe

Michael P. “Teschy” Tesch, 67, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m., at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 10478 Bell Ave., Plato, with the Rev. Dale Baker officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 14, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Friday, all at the church.
Casket bearers will be Larry Tester, Ron Lindner, Chuck Reider, Jim Amundson, Tom Schmidt and Tom Ginkel. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Patricia Ilene Nowak, 73, Hutchinson

Patricia Ilene Nowak, 73, of   Hutchinson, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A private celebration of life was held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. The Rev. David Hormann officiated.
Mrs. Nowak was born Oct. 22, 1943, in Bemidji, to John K. and Polly Marie (Russell) Babcock.
On April 21, 1978, she was joined in holy marriage to Richard Nowak in Watertown, South Dakota. God blessed their marriage with three children.

Carl H. Webb, 87, of Silver Lake

Carl H. Webb, 87, of Silver Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Tony Stubeda as the celebrant. Interment with military honors was held in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.
Carl Webb was born June 1, 1930, the son of Oscar J. and Blanche (Flindt) Webb. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and later belonged to the National Guard. He served 17 years in the U.S. Army and 13 years in the National Guard.
