City withdraws petition against MPCA

The Glencoe City Council voted to withdraw the city’s contested case petition over permitted phosphorous levels with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and execute a settlement and release with the MPCA at its Tuesday, Sept. 5, meeting.
Attorney Daniel Marx of Flaherty & Hood, P.A., met with the city’s finance committee Aug. 23 to discuss the contested case.

School Board sets work session on Helen Baker option

The Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) School Board agreed at its Monday night meeting to set a work session meeting to discuss the Helen Baker site purchase agreement from the city of Glencoe and the building proposal made by Glencoe Multi Family, LLC.
According to GSL Superintendent Christopher Sonju, this proposal and purchase agreement is the first the GSL school district has received, despite advertising the sale of the building.

Home folks help Hurricane Harvey victims

Yodee Rivera, a Glencoe Coborn’s employee, along with her aunt Sandra Sanchez and her grandmother Maria Gonzalez, brought local donations to Texas this past week to help support victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Before Hurricane Harvey hit, Rivera, Sanchez and Gonzalez were planning to go to Corpus Christi for a long weekend.
“So our trip kind of got a little ruined,” said Rivera, “But I mean, we had already asked off vacation time and we already had it approved, so we thought we have this time to go, we have this vehicle to go, why not still go and do something?”

City explores purchase agreement for Helen Baker building

The Glencoe City Council unanimously voted Tuesday, Sept. 5, to authorize Mayor Randy Wilson and City Administrator Mark Larson to execute a purchase agreement with the Glencoe-Silver Lake School (GSL) District to purchase the Helen Baker school site, as recommended by the Economic Development Commission (EDC).

Gibbon man dies in single-vehicle accident

Joshua David Kramer, 38, of Gibbon, died in a single-vehicle accident in the city of Gibbon Monday, Sept. 11, at about 11 a.m.
According to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Kramer was driving a 2000 Ford F150 pickup southbound on 621st Avenue. The vehicle entered a bean field on the west side of the road, crossed over Highway 19 near Ely Street in Gibbon, and hit the Gibbon Truck Sales building.
Responding to the accident were the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Gibbon Police Department, Gibbon Fire Department, Winthrop Ambulance and Minnesota State Patrol.
