Simon & Garfunkel tribute set for Sept. 9 in Glencoe

The Glencoe Performing Artists Series presents “Scarborough Fair, a Simon and Garfunkel Experience.” Prepare to fall in love again with the music of Simon and Garfunkel.
The Guthrie Brothers, Jeb and Jock, will be at the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. Through songs, stories, trivia and humor, they pay homage to the music of Simon and Garfunkel and engage the audience along the way. The show highlights the brothers’ deep connection to this music, and to the 1960s, the time period that made it all happen.

5 injured in 4-vehicle accident near Green Isle

Four vehicles were involved in an accident that injured five people on Highway 5 near 196th Street in Green Isle Township, Sibley County, on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The accident was reported at 6:41 p.m.

Helen Baker School options are ongoing

Today, Wednesday, is the start of the new school year for Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools, and there is a lot of excitement and anticipation as Lincoln Campus students and staff are finally (more or less) in place in their new classrooms, cafeteria and other new spaces.
And that excitement and anticipation are well deserved. The school district is finally seeing the fruition of years of facility planning, and the result of a voter-approved building bond after two prior votes failed.

He said he’d never do it … but he did

I did something recently that I said I would never do.
I attended a Vikings pre-season game at U.S. Bank Stadium and rode the light rail transit to get there. Three things I swore were boondoggles.
First, pre-season football is like watching paint dry. It doesn’t count and, well, it’s boring.

Encourages attendance at ditch hearing Sept. 12

To the Editor:
Most, of not all, of Sibley County landowners who own land on County Ditches 40, 50, 55, 61 and 67, along with landowners on County Ditch 18 and Judicial Ditch 18, have been notified of the continuation hearing from June 27, which is now set for Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. in the basement of the Sibley County Courthouse.

Family research series resumes at libraries

The McLeod County Historical Society and Pioneerland Library System will resume their family history research series this fall.
The 2017 series focuses on advanced family history research programs, including ways to write and publish family history, how to join historical societies, and how to prepare for an overseas research trip.

Coborn’s welcomes new store director

Mike Roman of St. Cloud has been hired as the new store director for Coborn’s in Glencoe. He started the position in the beginning of August.
Roman, who grew up in Kimball, has a long history with Coborn’s which began 15 years ago, in 2002.
“This is my second store director position,” said Roman.
Roman has previously held many different positions in Coborn’s stores including assistant store director, inventory control manager, shift manager and swing shift manager in locations such as Delano, Albertville, Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud.

Former Navy parachutist to speak Sun.

The Sibley County Historical Society will present its final program focusing on veterans Sunday, Sept. 10, at 3 p.m., at the museum in Henderson.
Ed Kruse, a Sibley County native, will present “Navy Parachuting: A Fork in the Road That Led to the Sky.” Kruse served as a parachutist in the U.S. Navy and also on the U.S. Navy parachute exhibition team, “The Chuting Stars.”
