Korson is newest full-time police officer for city of Glencoe

At the Sept. 5 Glencoe City Council meeting, Brianna Korson of Stewart was sworn in by Mayor Randy Wilson as a full-time officer for the Glencoe Police Department.
Korson is replacing Officer Craig Losure, who retired from the department on Sept. 10 after 18 years of service. She comes highly recommended by Police Chief Jim Raiter, who believes Korson will be a solid officer for the Glencoe Police Department and a good fit for the citizens of Glencoe.

Glencoe author writes for homeschoolers

For Angela O’Dell, writing homeschool curriculum started with her own teaching experience as a homeschooling mom.
As a mother of four, O’Dell has been homeschooling since 1998 when her oldest, Andrew, was five. Now, O’Dell has homeschooled three children through high school graduation, continues to homeschool her youngest, Katie, consults homeschooling families and writes full-time from the comfort of her home in Glencoe, where her family has lived since 2004.

Acquisition and demo of Main Street buildings moves forward

After nearly two years of discussion, the four buildings on Main Street in Silver Lake will soon be coming down.
The Silver Lake City Council on Monday night passed a resolution to authorize City Clerk Jon Jerabek and Acting Mayor Nolan Johnson to execute the final sale documents for the purchase of the building owned by Sumter Mutual Insurance for $22,000. The sale is anticipated to be finalized by Oct. 1.
The council learned that the eminent domain process has been completed in the acquisition of the property owned by Mayor Bruce Bebo. The acquisition will take place on Oct. 1.

County 4-H’ers showcase skills at state shooting sports invitational

Thirteen McLeod County 4-H’ers had the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Minnesota 4-H State Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational Sept. 8-10 in Alexandria.
Approximately 900 4-H’ers from throughout the state participated in archery, muzzler loader, shotgun, air rifle, .22 rifle, air pistol, silhouette fun shoot, wildlife calling, conservation and wildlife displays and a skill-a-thon.

Edward Rettman Jr., 80, Hutchinson

Edward Albert Rettman Jr. 80, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
The funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 15, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Kevin W. Oster officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
