Edgar R. Schuft, formerly of Arlington

Edgar R. Schuft, 87, formerly of Arlington, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, in Prior Lake.
A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 4, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Deborah Dawson officiating.

Steven Rohling Sr., 53, Howard Lake

Steven William Rohling Sr., 53, of Howard, Lake, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Sept. 7, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Schumacher as celebrant. Entombment followed the service at the Holy Trinity Niche.
Mr. Rohling was born June 8, 1964, in Winsted, the son of William and Martha T. (Kieser) Rohling. He graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1982.
On April 8, 1989, Steven W. Rohling and Karry A. Rohling were joined in holy marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with three children.

Allen ‘Al’ J. Vogt, 68, of Cook

Allen “Al” J. Vogt, 68, of Cook, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Cook. A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Rev. Jared Bangs will be the officiant. Military honors will be the combined honor guards of Cook VFW Post 1757 and the Orr American Legion Post 480. Interment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.

Marvin C. Peterson, 80, of Silver Lake

Marvin “Gypsy” Ceciel Peterson, 80, of Silver Lake, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017.
Visitation and a memorial service are set for Wednesday, Sept. 13 (today), with visitation and gathering of family and friends at noon, and the memorial service at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Holy Family, 700 Main St. W, Silver Lake. The Rev. Anthony Stubeda will officiate.

Karen Diane Cheever, 69, of Glencoe

Karen Diane Cheever, 69, of Glencoe, formerly of Minneapolis, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Deborah Dawson officiating. Roberta Schauer was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “Abide With Me,” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” “How Great Thou Art” and “America the Beautiful.”

John ‘Jack’ Nuwash, 87, Silver Lake

John “Jack”  Albert Nuwash, 87, of Silver Lake, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 9, at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Carol Chmielewski officiating. Barb Wawrzyniak was the organist.
Honorary urn bearers were Carl Palmquist and Anton Nuvar. Interment with military honors was in the Bohemian National Cemetery.

Donna Mae Baumann, 85, of Glencoe

Donna Mae (Rannow) Baumann, 85, of Glencoe, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Sunrise Senior Living in Edina.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 8, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Yvonne Schuette was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “How Great Thou Art.” Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”
Casket bearers were David Latzke, Larry Moehring, Gerald Bren and Chelsea Baumann-Roembach. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Patricia M. Albrecht, 82, of Brownton

Patricia “Pat” Albrecht, 82, of Brownton, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Sept. 8, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart with the Rev. Jerry Meidl officiating. Marjorie Navara was the organist.
Casket bearers were her six grandsons; honorary casket bearers were her two granddaughters. Interment was Saturday, Sept. 9, in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.

POW-MIA Recognition Day is Sept. 15

POW-MIA Recognition Day is Friday, Sept. 15. At the Glencoe VFW Post 5102, the Lonely Table Set for One is displayed in observation of recognition day during the month of September.
This year, Friday, Sept. 15, is set aside to remember all prisoners of war (POWs) and those who are still classified as missing in action (MIAs). Current numbers of POWs/MIAs include:
World War II: 124,079 POWs, 30,314 MIAs; Korean War: 7,140 POWs, 8,025 MIAs; Vietnam War: 766 POWs, 1,719 MIAs; Persian Gulf War: 29 POWs, 21 MIAs; Somalia: six POWs, two MIA; and Yugoslavia: three POWs.

Missionary, international students visit First Lutheran Church, Glencoe

Rebecca Wagner, a missionary of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), her husband Peter, and three international students visited First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe Saturday, Sept. 9.
The church’s pastor, the Rev. Dan Welch, along with members Glenda Schuft and Cindy Eggersgluess, led the group on a tour of the sanctuary and school, pointing out some of the religious symbols and relaying some basic Christian beliefs. Discussion included the sacraments of baptism and holy communion and the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.
