Raymond A. Draeger, 70, of Glencoe

Raymond Draeger, 70, of Glencoe, formerly of Brownton, died Monday, March 27, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with the Rev. R. Allan Reed officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Rock of Ages,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Abide With Me.”

Ruth Margaret Lemke, 76, of Glencoe

Ruth Margaret (Proehl) Lemke, 76, of Glencoe, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Jan Heins was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “Jesus, Still Lead On.”

Luella Dahlke, 86, of Glencoe

Luella Dahlke, 86, of Glencoe, died Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 11, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Honorary casket bearers were Mrs. Dahlke’s grandchildren, and casket bearers were her sons. Interment was in the church cemetery.

County economic vitality forum set for April 20

The public is invited to join elected officials from townships, school districts, cities, and the county in discussing the connections between three types of businesses: farms, manufacturers and Main Street retailers, on Thursday, April 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the media center at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School, 1825 16th St. E, Glencoe.

GSL Knowledge Bowl team captures state championship

“GSL’s Knowledge Bowlers have had a good year,” proudly statedCoach Vicky Harris. Glencoe-Silver Lake’s season culminated with a state championship last week.
GSL’s 43 team memberes participated in 13 meets, up to and including the regional meet. The top varsity team won 10 of those meets, with two second-place finishes and one third place.

School Board ponders proposed budget cuts

Each April, Glencoe-Silver Lake Business Manager Michelle Sander and Superintendent Chris Sonju give the School Board an update on the planning process for the next school year.
In overview presented Monday night at the School Board meeting, Sander explained an adjustment has been made to the 2016-17 budget because there are fewer students than projected when the budget was prepared. The districted budgeted expecting 1,581 students, but currently has 1,547.

Mayor suggests code of conduct for elected, appointed officials

Glencoe Mayor Randy Wilson introduced a code of ethics and conduct policy for elected and appointed officials  to the city’s personnel committee Monday, April 10.
The personnel committee consists of council members Allen Robeck, Cory Neid and Milan Alexander. Council Member Gary Ziemer also was in attendance.
Wilson said, according to the League of Minnesota Cities, more cities are adopting similar policies to address the growing incivility among council and board members.
The policy presented was adapted from another city as an example.

Highway 22 detour set for Armstrong project

The city of Glencoe will start its Armstrong Avenue project Monday, April 17. New utilities such as sewer and water are being installed, which will necessitate the rebuilding of Armstrong Avenue. Highway 22 will be closed between the intersections of Highway22-McLeod County Road 3 to the intersection of Highway 22-McLeod County Road 2.
Highway 22 will close Monday, April 17, at 7 a.m.
