February 1st

Daughter born to Oddens

Joshua and Inga Odden of Glencoe announce the birth of a daughter, Piper Joy Odden, who arrived Jan. 20, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Piper weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 20 inches long at birth. She joins a brother, Riley, 4. Grandparents are Scott and Jean Odden and Dean Martinson, all of Staples.

Area students on Duluth list

Several students from the area were named to the University of Minnesota Duluth fall semester 2016 dean’s list. Included are: Emily Muetzel, Brownton; Kaitlyn Boesche, Mark Broderius, Adam Eberhard, Ryley Oliver and Chandler Swift, all of Glencoe; Mitchell Pinske, Plato; and Michael Coughlin and Jacob Wawrzyniak, both of Silver Lake. To be named to the list, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

January 31st

Heavy workweek for GSL/LP wrestlers

In its busiest week in over a month, the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team came up on the unfortunate end of the scoresheet in a trio of dual competitions last week.
On Wednesday, Jan. 25, the Panthers fell 58-21 to Dassel-Cokato. GSL grapplers claimed four victories on the evening, while having to forfeit five matches.

Panther gymnasts earn win vs. Saints

The Glencoe-Silver Lake gymnastics team claimed a home victory last week with a win over St. Peter before falling in a dual meet at New Prague. 
A score of 120.375 earned the Panthers a win against the visiting Saints on Tuesday, Jan. 24, with St. Peter mustering up a score of 118.600.
Gia Venier placed second in the all-around with a score of 30.850, while Marissa Greeley took fourth with a 30.050.

Boys’ hoop splits a pair

A 63-50 win at Mound Westonka last week snapped a three-game losing streak for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team. However, the Panthers could only manage a split for the week after losing 72-71 at Rockford. 
GSL held a 44-36 halftime lead against the Rockets on Friday, Jan. 27, but could not hang on in losing by a single point. Forward Kyle Christensen led all scorers with 26 points, with guards Luke Frahm and Tyler Ehrke chipping in with 12 and nine points, respectively. 

GSL girls’ cagers hitting their stride

Riding high on a four-game winning streak, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team entered this week with a 12-7 overall record. 
The streak also boosted the Panthers into a second-place tie in the Wright County Conference West with a 5-2 mark in circuit play.
Boosted by a 72-57 win at Annandale on Friday, Jan. 20, GSL opened a four-game home stand with a 99-70 defeat of Dassel-Cokato on Monday, Jan. 23.

Commissioners Wright, Nies, Shimanski, Krueger and Nagel were present.
Krueger/Shimanski motion carried unanimously to approve the agenda as revised.
Nies/Krueger motion approved the consent agenda including December 20, 2016 Meeting Minutes and Synopsis and December 20, 2016 Meeting Minutes and Synopsis.
Wright/Shimanski motion carried unanimously to freeze salaries of for 4 non-union employees who are currently above the new salary range maximum until ranges advance.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT: Sealed proposals for the Marsh Water Project, Buffalo Creek Watershed District, City of Glencoe and Glencoe Township, McLeod County, Minnesota, will be received by Houston Engineering, 6901 East Fish Lake Road, Suite 140, Maple Grove, MN 55369-5455 until 2 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2017, after which they will be opened, read aloud, and tabulated.
Bid recommendation will be provided to the Board of Managers on February 28, 2017 for their selection and award of contract.
