Son born to Glencoe couple

Nick and Erica Fehlandt of Glencoe announce the arrival of a son, Garrett Nicholas Fehlandt, who was born Dec. 7, 2017, at Ridgeview Medical Center. Garrett weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 191⁄2 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Jerry Hoese of Lester Prairie, Lynn Norby of Silver Lake and Myron and Julie Fehlandt of Glencoe.

GSL junior high Knowledge Bowlers capture top 2 spots at 30-team meet

Glencoe-Silver Lake’s seventh- to ninth-grade Knowledge Bowlers traveled to Marshall Monday, Dec. 18, for a large meet involving all the “Junior High” Knowledge Bowl teams in Region 6, which is the region in which GSL normally competes. GSL took five teams to compete against 30 other teams from the region.

Gerald ‘Jerry’ Soller, 89, Belle Plaine

Gerald “Jerry” Mathias Soller, 89, died at his home Dec. 25, 2017, surrounded by his family.
A memorial Mass was held Saturday, Dec. 30, at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine with the Rev. Brian Lynch officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Schlegel Cemetery.
Mr. Soller was born May 13, 1928, in Belle Plaine, to John and Myrtle (Ridd) Soller. He later attended St. Anne’s Parochial School and graduated from Le Sueur High School in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy.

Marcella Fiecke, 86, Lester Prairie

Marcella M. (Mrs. Norbert) (Molva) Fiecke, 86, formerly of Lester Prairie, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Dec. 29, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with the Rev. Paul Schumacher officiating. Alice Nowak was the organist. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace,” “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “Be Not Afraid,” Mother, Dearest, Pray for Me,” “Song of Farewell” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Urn bearers were Mrs. Fiecke’s grandchildren. Interment was in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.

Janice E. Dascher, 75, of Hutchinson

Janice Dascher, 75, of Hutchinson, wife of Duane Dascher, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at her home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 28, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Gerhard Bode officiating. Paul Otte was the organist. Soloist Gene Kruse sang “In the Garden.” Congregational hymns were “A Closer Walk With Thee” and “Abide With Me.”
Casket bearers were Mitchell Sims, Joshua Hartelt, Michael Block, Dennis Schroeder, Larry Nelson and Dean Duesterhoeft. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.

January brings annual appointments

January brings the annual reorganization meetings of various boards, committees and city councils.
Since 2017 was not an election year in this area for school boards, city councils or the county board, there are no new members coming on to start the new year.
The first reorganizational meeting for the boards and councils The Chronicle covers was the McLeod County Board on Tuesday morning. It was no surprise that Commissioner Joe Nagel was re-elected by his fellow commissioners as the chair, nor that Commissioner Doug Krueger was elected vice chair.

Injuries reported in area traffic accidents

A Winsted woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 7 in Silver Lake on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at about 9:30 a.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2014 Ford Escape driven by Laura Ann Kaczmarek, 76, of Silver Lake, and a 2013 Kia Soul driven by Monica Mary Krueger, 60, of Winsted, were both eastbound on Highway 7. The Ford had slowed to make a turn onto Lane Avenue in Silver Lake when it was rear-ended by the Kia.

County planning commisson considers St. John’s addition

The McLeod County Planning Advisory Commission recommended approval of a conditional use permit for David Swift, representing St. John’s Church in Hassan Valley Township, and a one-lot sketch plan in Bergen Township for Brian Gatz, at last Wednesday’s meeting.
