Rev. Harvey Kath, 80, of Plymouth and formerly of Glencoe

Rev. Harvey Kath, 80, of Plymouth and formerly of Glencoe, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. at J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park.
Funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment following in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 form 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe and will continue one hour prior to the service.

Spikers win 2AA opener

The Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team won its Section 2AA Tournament opener on Thursday, Oct. 25, defeating a determined LeSueur-Henderson side in four sets (27-25, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22) in the Panthers’ final home match of the season. GSL, seeded third in the North subsection, took on Norwood Young America on Tuesday, Oct. 30, after the Chronicle went to press.

Hallaway runs his way to state meet

Glencoe-Silver Lake freshman Connor Hallaway earned his place among the Class A’s elite as he qualified for his first state cross-country meet after finishing sixth at the Section 2A championship meet on Thursday, Oct. 25.
Hallaway led the Panther boys squad to a sixth-place team finish by navigating the 5,000-meter course at Montgomery National Golf Course in Montgomery with a sixth-place time of 16 minutes, 34.1 seconds.
Following Hallaway was a trio of seniors.

Panthers burned by Fire in football finale

A difficult season came to a close for the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team after a 40-7 loss at Holy Family Catholic in the second round of the Section 2AAA playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The defeat wrapped up the Panthers’ autumn with a 4-5 overall record after GSL took down Norwood Young America 32-6 in the playoff opener on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
The postseason opened with one final win for GSL on its home field as the Panthers converted four Raiders turnovers into 24 third-quarter points, turning a close game into a 26-point triumph.

Wayne Mackenthun, 80, of Glencoe

Wayne Mackenthun, 80, of Glencoe, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, at his home near Glencoe.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 11 a.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment following at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 9 to 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the church.

For the first time since 2004, Glencoe-Silver Lake will be represented at the girls’ Class A state cross-country meet after the Panthers earned a runner-up finish at the Section 2A championship meet on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Montgomery National Golf Course in Montgomery.
“They are very excited to make it,” coach Josh Metcalf said. “The girls were not ranked in the top six in the section preview, so they shocked a lot of teams.”
