In what has become almost as much a rite of autumn as falling leaves and pumpkin spice, the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team won its fifth-straight Wright County Conference West championship on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The Panthers clinched the tiele once again by defeating Watertown-Mayer in a five-set, winner-take-all match in the GSL gymnasium to finish the season with a perfect 7-0 record in circuit play.
The hosts stormed out to a 25-13 first set victory in front of a raucous home crowd, then held on against a rising of the tides.

A total of five Glencoe-Silver Lake runners earned all-conference honors at the Wright County Conference West championship meet, held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Watertown, with three more claiming all-conference honorable mention.
The GSL girls’ trio of Maddy Lemke, Kendall Guerrero and Malayh Metcalf finished in the top 12 spots to earn an all-WCC West slot. A fourth Panther, Megan Siewert, earned honorable mention.

Footballers losing streak ends at last

Behind a 100-yard rushing game by Riley Ruzicka and two Korey Johnson touchdown passes, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team ended a five-game losing streak with a 27-20 win at Litchfield in its regular-season finale on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
The Panthers improved to 3-5 with the win and clinched a home game in the first round of the Section 2AAA Tournament.
GSL claimed the No. 3 sectional seed with the win and hosted sixth-seeded Norwood-Young America (1-7 this season) on Tuesday, Oct. 23, after the Chronicle went to press.

County attorney weighing possible criminal charges against Eden Prairie cop

McLeod County Attorney Attorney Michael Junge is weighing possible criminal charges against an Eden Prairie detective who allegedly intentionally falsified search warrants in drug cases he worked.
Yesterday, Junge said he could have a charging decision involving Eden Prairie Police Detective Travis Serafin as soon as this week or as late as mid-December. Serafin allegedly falsified search warrants in 2017. The first of as many as almost three dozen drug cases Serafin worked using information gained from the allegedly falsified warrants could be thrown out.
