Taking care of caregivers

She knows the feelings of guilt, self-doubt, loneliness, anger and frustration and more. And when it all seems a little overwhelming, Linda Simonson realizes the emotions she deals with are nothing aside of what her husband faces each day.
Simonson spends the majority of each day taking care of Kevin, her husband of 35 years as he makes the most of everyday life with brain cancer. Kevin needs help to get around. He still enjoys going to see the football team play. He hopes to attend several wrestling matches this winter. But there are times he needs Linda’s help for some things.

Area man charged with soliciting girl, 15, for sex

A 27-year-old Winsted man is facing five felony counts regarding the alleged solicitation of a 15-year-old girl for sex.

From Florida to Maine, Glencoe man peddled the entire way

Twelve years old and at summer camp, Dale McCrea Jr., of Glencoe, and Sonny Rasmussen first met each other; a year later, they went to the South Dakota School for the Deaf.
Fast forward to April 4 of this year, and the bicyclists began their journey riding the Atlantic Coast Trail, logging 2,400 miles across the nation from Key West, Fla. — the southernmost part of the country — to Lubec, Maine — the easternmost point.

Time for Glencoe, area voters to cast their ballots

With the campaigning nearly completed, voters in Glencoe, McLeod County, the region, state and nation will finally go to the polls Tuesday to have their say.
Locally, voters will cast ballots for candidates seeking election to federal, state, judicial, city, county, soil-and-water conservation district, school board, and township offices. Voters in the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District will also decide a request for additional operating levy funding. McLeod County election officials are expecting a heavy turnout Nov. 6. They have accepted over 800 absentee ballots as of Friday, Oct. 26.

Investment in GSL Schools a sound, lasting value

Voters in the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District will be faced with a variety of choices when they go to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 6. One of those choices they will face is a single-question request from the school district to replace an existing $476.88 voter-approved per-pupil unit operating levy set to sunset in June of 2020 and replace it with a school board-approved $300 per pupil-unit levy good in five-year increments. The district’s request includes a request for voters to OK a weighted $460 per pupil unit levy good for a decade.

Our view: Make informed decisions and go vote

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the candidates who have decided to run for local, state and national offices. It is easy to sit back and complain about how city, school or state governments are run, but it takes a lot of courage to put your name out there and run for office.
This year, there are candidates for all the open seats in cities and school boards. This isn’t always the case. While many candidates are running unopposed, there are a few races in the local area.
