Panthers third, fourth at conference CC meet

A total of five Glencoe-Silver Lake runners earned all-conference honors at the Wright County Conference West championship meet, held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Watertown, with three more claiming all-conference honorable mention.
The GSL girls’ trio of Maddy Lemke, Kendall Guerrero and Malayh Metcalf finished in the top 12 spots to earn an all-WCC West slot. A fourth Panther, Megan Siewert, earned honorable mention.

GSL wins fifth consecutive WCC West volleyball title

In what has become almost as much a rite of autumn as falling leaves and pumpkin spice, the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team won its fifth-straight Wright County Conference West championship on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The Panthers clinched their fifth-consecutive title by defeating Watertown-Mayer in a five-set, winner-take-all match in the GSL gymnasium to finish the season with a perfect 7-0 record in circuit play.
The hosts stormed out to a 25-13 first set victory in front of a raucous home crowd, then held on against a rising of the tides.

Walter E. Roeschlein, 93, of Onamia (formerly Glencoe)

Saturday, Oct. 20, after 4½ months in hospice care, Walter E. Roeschlein, 93, went peacefully to his heavenly home, surrounded by his loving family. A former resident of both Long Lake and Glencoe, he currently lived in Onamia.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Isle with Rev Mark Maunula officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 and one hour prior to the service Saturday, all at the church. Interment will be in the Sunset Cemetery in Isle.
Arrangements are by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.

Hy-Vee recalls six meat, potato products

WEST DES MOINES — Hy-Vee, Inc., based in West Des Moines, Iowa, is recalling six of its meat and potato products across its eight-state region because of possible contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. The potential for contamination was discovered after Hy-Vee’s supplier, McCain Foods, announced it was recalling its caramelized mushrooms and fire-roasted tomatoes, which are ingredients used in six Hy-Vee products.
To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with these products.

Silver Lake Lions, Silver Lake Women’s Club Hosting Meet the Candidates Night Monday

Candidates for election or re-election to the Silver Lake City Council and the Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board will be participating in a “Meet the Candidates’ Night” Monday, Oct. 22, 7 p.m., at the Silver Lake Auditorium.
Candidates for the Silver Lake City Council are Joshua Mason, Chris Penaz, and Josh Winfrey. Mayor candidates are Bruce Bebo and Dorothy Butler. Glencoe- Silver Lake School Board candidates are Jason Lindeman, Jonathan Lemke, Alicia Luckhardt, Andrea Janke, Valerie Bandas, and James Entinger.
