Dragons drop boys' hoopsters

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team opened Wright County Conference West play with a 60-35 loss at Litchfield on Friday, Jan. 12. The loss dropped the Panthers to 5-6 overall.
The 35 points scored by GSL was the slightest offensive output for the Panthers this season, six points lower than in a 60-41 loss at Jordan on Jan. 2. Individual scoring stats were not available.
After spending its first three games of 2018 on the road, GSL returned home for a WCC West matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 16, after the Chronicle went to press.

Matmen fall at Watertown-Mayer

It was a light week for the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team as the Panthers grappled in a double dual meet at Watertown-Mayer on Friday, Jan. 12.
The Panthers came up on the short end in both duals, losing 62-9 to the meet hosts and 62-16 to Mound Westonka.
GSL/LP earned two individual wins against Watertown Mayer/Mayer Lutheran. Zachary Voelz earned a 5-0 decision at 126 pounds and Cody Rae won by fall at 182.

Girls' hoops sitting atop WCC West

Back-to-back Wright County Conference West wins against Dassel-Cokato and Litchfield last week ran the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team’s victory streak to four games.
The Panthers improved to 9-4 overall with the wins and entered this week tied atop the WCC West with a 3-0 conference mark.
GSL opened last week by storming to a 57-35 road win over the Chargers on Tuesday, Jan. 9. The Panthers led by double digits, 30-20, at the break before cruising to the 22-point triumph.

Gymnasts return home this week

The Glencoe-Silver Lake gymnastics team was on the road for a set of meets last week as the Panthers traveled to St. Peter, Waconia and Farmington.
Tuesday, Jan. 9, saw the Panthers travel south to take on St. Peter at Gustavus Adolphus College. GSL recorded a score of 115.1 to 131.15 for the host Saints.
Marissa Greeley finished fourth in the individual all-around with a score of 31.1. She scored an 8.25 on vault, 8.0 on floor exercise, 7.7 on balance beam and 7.15 on the uneven bars.

NYA woman dies in mobile home fire

Nancy Lee Green, 71, of Norwood Young America (NYA), died Thursday night when her home burned, according to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, a report came in at 5:54 p.m. regarding a house fire on Railroad Street East in NYA, and that an adult female, who was paralyzed and unable to move on her own, may be in the residence.
