Joan L. Goranowski, 84, Silver Lake

Joan Louise Goranowski, 84, formerly of Silver Lake, went to Heaven to be with her husband and son on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at St. Crispin Living Center in Red Wing.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Jan. 5, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Paul Schumacher officiating. Interment followed in the St. Adalbert’s Catholic Cemetery.

Marilyn M. Templin, 89, of Glencoe

Marilyn Mercedes (Kern) Templin, 89, of Glencoe, wife of the late Ernie Templin, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 3, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Peter Adelsen officiating. Yvonne Schuette was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Casket bearers were Jeff Templin, Angela Templin, Angela Marshall, Tony Marshall, Wayne Ahlbrecht and David Prehn. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Lorna E.R. Shanahan, 98, of Glencoe

Lorna Esther Rose (Grenke) Shanahan, 98, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 8, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “How Great Thou Art” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The congregational hymn was “Amazing Grace.
Casket bearers were David Schiroo, Jim Jensen Jr., Jeff Templin, Lori Allen, Anissa Parsons and Angela Marshall. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Carmen Johnson-Klassen, Glencoe

Carmen Johnson-Klassen, 46, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at her home.
A private family celebration of life will be held at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson with Chaplain Penny Entringen officiating. Soloist Cory White will sing “I Can Only Imagine.” The congregational hymn will be “Amazing Grace.” Special music will be “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper and “Seasons of Love” from the Broadway musical “Rent.”

Karen Leona (Wilkens) Martin, 78, of Plato, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.
Memorial services were held Sunday, Jan. 7, at Friedens (County Line) Church in rural Norwood Young America, with the Rev. Matthew Orendorff officiating. Carol Heckmann was the organist. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Blest Be the Tie That Binds.”

A motion was made at the Glencoe City Council’s Jan. 2 meeting to sign an agreement with McLeod County regarding the Morningside Avenue extension project. That motion died for a lack of a second.

Glencoe man faces charges after allegedly shaking baby

Timothy Daniel Miller, 24, of Glencoe, is facing a felony charge of assault in the first degree – great bodily harm after allegedly shaking a 51⁄2-month-old child on Jan. 4.
According to a criminal complaint filed in McLeod County District Court, Glencoe police responded to a home on Baldwin Avenue at about 10 a.m. that day, where a baby was found to be non-responsive and breathing shallowly. Miller allegedly admitted to shaking the baby. Miller was the only caretaker in the house at the time.

County to reconsider reimbursement to management company for MRF

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners will consider increasing the amount it pays to Green Forest Recycling Services to $75 per ton for materials shipped to end markets from the current rate of $56 per ton.
Green Forest was hired by the County Board in 2017 as a private contractor to manage the county’s materials recovery facility (MRF), which handles the items collected through recycling.

Rural Glencoe shed destroyed by fire

Fire destroyed a shed and two vehicles on Harvest Road north of Glencoe Sunday night.
Glencoe Fire Chief Ron Grack said the department received the page at about 6:30 p.m., and was on scene for about three hours.
The shed was fully involved when the department arrived, Grack added. The approximately 30-foot by 40-foot shed was located at the Wayne and Kim Strong property. The shed was a wood-frame building lined with tin.
Grack said his department was aided by Silver Lake with a tanker and manpower, and water tanker trucks from Lester Prairie and Hutchinson.
